Exquisite and charming surroundings and great food

Great food, amazing historic surroundings with accompanying music and a good wine menu. We were told at the hotel that Dar El Jeld was the best restaurant in Tunisia and it certainly lived up to it.

I liked the food, the presentation and the ambience. The food was just great - Enjoyed every bit of it. It is an expensive restaurant.

My friend reserved this restaurant for our first night dinner. It is located in Medina, very close to the official residence of prime minister. Once entered, you'll see the different atmosphere from daytime Medina's bustle. Well decorated, and the building and interior exude a certain dignity. We ordered beers, the starter plates (4-5 different plates), couscous with fish and lamb,... More

Dar El Jeld is a must if you are staying in central Tunis. The setting is wonderful, it feels like you are dining under the North African sky, the service is excellent, we were getting along with school girl french, when the maitre d came to the rescue and spoke perfect English. The food is great and portions generous. The... More

Wonderful for a special occasion. Food is delicious, the space is gorgeous, the service excellent. It was one of the best meals I had in Tunis (I was there for a week and was out everyday). The couscous (with all kinds of meats, vegetables, etc.) is magnificent. Also lovely Tunisian wine to accompany it (I can't recall the name).

The food is really tasty and very authentic Tunisian. The place itself will blow you away - amazing decor and ambiance. The only reason why I didn't rate this 5 stars is because our head waiter was rather stiff and cold. I wouldn't say rude, but it just wasn't pleasant service from him in particular. The assistant waiters were nice... More

Dar El Jeld is a restaurant in an old traditional house, dar arbi which is riad style. The interior and design is stylish yet straightforward. The menu has some great Tunisian dishes with fresh fish and grilled meat. Be sure to try the brik as a starter. If you like wine they have a variety of choices on the wine... More

A chic restaurant serving Tunisian food in a charming traditional house in the medina of Tunis. Excellent for business meals, either lunch or dinner. Both food and service are excellent. You'd better make a reservation before.

Arrived without a reservation, a table was found. It is a wonderful setting and the waiting staff are floating about constantly. Service was excellent, food was a delight and it was not that expensive. You are not rushed through the courses.
