I have found the service to be somewhat spotty, but always forgive them because the food is so good.
We stopped at this Village Inn while traveling through the area. Not really knowing anything about the restaurant, but trusting the chain name, we decided to give it a try. Our experience was, in a word, average. We had a party of six, and were seated within a few minutes, something that is nice. Our server was extremely friendly and... More
I love pork chops & eggs ..they had 2 large & juicy chops along with the eggs and hash browns. My wife had hot oatmeal & a muffin ( She's the healthy one) liked that they had dried cranberries in the oatmeal instead of raisins
Quick service, no unruly kids. Better food and prices than IHOP. The hash browns were some of the best I have ever had, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, not greasy at all. Great omelet and pancakes!
We went for supper about 6:30, lots of empty tables and booths. Had to stand quite awhile to get seated even, the guy that seats people was running around helping the waitress. VI has always been one of the better breakfast joints in Iowa. Been going there across Iowa since I was probably under the age of 10. I'm now 33. Ankeny's version is no different.

If you're looking for a hearty breakfast in Ankeny, consider the Village Inn. The chicken fried steak with eggs, hash browns and 3 pancakes was delicious and a very ample portion. It was busy but service was very good. I try chicken fried steak wherever I see it on a menu and this ranks right up there for me.
