Fantastic early dinner in Ames: Arrive at 5 for a table!

We were in Story City (north of Ames) for a meeting. The Cafe came up during a search for farm to table restaurants. I read the TripAdvisory reviews and looked the menu on The Cafe website. Finding a restaurant that serves tasty vegetarian meals in the middle of Iowa isn't easy. The Cafe meets that... read more

We stopped here for a Sunday evening meal with family based on a recommendation from TripAdvisor. I had the Cuban Sand, which was very good, a little different because the black beans are in the sandwich. Not so hot if you don't like black beans. Chicken special was good. Corn chowder was bland. Waiter was new and didn't know much... More

There is a queue so they must be something right, but if you are used to half sophisticated food you will be disappointed. The service was very friendly but not very attentive.

There is a reason that The Cafe is the number one rated restaurant in Ames. After shopping we stopped by The Cafe, because of TripAdvisor ' s rating; and we were very happy we did. At 4:00 we were only able to order from the deli menu, but there were many wonderful and unique choices. We enjoyed a very delicious... More

We have eaten at The Cafe numerous times. The menu changes seasonally, so there is always something new to try. The menu choices are original, and everything is so fresh! When it is the correct season, my daughter's favorite is the macaroni and cheese--but this the gourmet variety. Today was the wrong season, so she chose the pizza marguerite. She... More

Great breakfast and service. Right amount of food for me and my husband. I enjoyed the farm fresh eggs and he got the omelet. Will definitely return.

We stopped in for breakfast the wait was a little long but well worth it. It isn't your traditional style breakfast at all. The menu is limited and a little confusing but it is really good food.

Not your typical breakfast cafe. Has the feel of nice pub restaurant with a trendier menu. I was a little worried by some of the menu items and ingredients for a family breakfast. However, the food was good and not horribly over-priced. Has an attached pastry and coffee shop, as well as as small pub-style bar. Family friendly!

We have eaten here four or five times on our way from Minneapolis to other locations or when we're visiting Ames. We'd even consider making this a day trip to enjoy their creative, tasty, high-quality, and never run-of-the-mill menu. The wait staff has always been friendly and attentive, the decor is inviting, and the ambience is never so noisy that... More

When we are in town, we always visit The Café for many reasons. The food is always great, I've had a dish many times and the consistency always there! The menu changes which is really an appeal for us as we like to try out new dishes. They have a nice bar area to sit and refresh while waiting for... More
