Arrived in Ames too early for my hotel check-in but with a mountain of work to attack. Enjoyed a delicious cappuccino and Reuben accompanied with carrots (I appreciated the healthy alternative to chips), the friendly staff, and the reliable wifi... all without too much background noise.

An Americano and a cinnamon scone makes the perfect afternoon snack at this unique cafe on Main Street. Cafe Diem is by far my favorite place to grab a coffee in Ames. I try to go here at least once a week to meet friends, catch up on the newspaper, or just read my latest book. They have good lunches,... More

Good vibe, good food, good coffee. Not a chain. Offers high speed internet free of charge. Situated on Main Street. Friendly staff. All in all, a cool little place in a small iowa college town. Better feel than Starbucks. Local art on walls. Cozy seating/ booths or chairs. Can go work on computer, read a book, knit, apply for jobs,... More

First of all I really like the name of this quaint coffee shop on Ames Main Street. I went here solo to journal and relax while the boys played golf. The next day we all stopped in here for a drink while we waited for the stores of Main Street to open. There was a book signing going on and... More

I've never had a good lunch here and now I am going to stop trying. Expensive for what you get. The choices are boring, or at best basic, and not that well executed. The breakfast menu is extremely limited. I like the decor and the atmosphere. The coffee is fine, probably the best coffee in downtown Ames. But if I... More

My husband & I stopped here on a Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago on a stay in Ames. It is a nice, unique shop with lots of interesting memorabilia. The coffee was Very Good! They had a nice selection of pastries, but we had already eaten breakfast at our hotel. It is located in a cute little area... More

I stopped for coffee on a recent visit because I like to check out new places. This was a good stop. I was there on a mid-morning weekend and it wasn't very busy. The coffee was good, and the staff friendly. It was nicely arranged and seemed pretty comfortable compared to some shops. I didn't try the food but the... More

Cafe Diem is an Ames landmark on Main Street. Seven days a week, consistently, there is good coffee. The food is simple and fresh, including soup, sandwiches, muffins, scones, and salads. I like that they offer you carrot chips or potato chips. A visit to Ames Main Street Cultural District is not complete without a nice latte from Diem.

A nice quaint coffee shop. It is a great place to meet people, and study. The food/coffee is fairly average. A great place to go on a date when it is snowing.

Cafe Diem is a favorite meeting, lunch-date, and study spot for a lot of students. They have, in my opinion, probably the best coffee and tea drinks in town. They also offer a small soup and sandwich menu, all delicious food. The price is on the fair-cheap side, and it's a great value.
