Menu has assortment of fish, steak, sandwiches, and food is good. Prices range from $30+ to sandwich for $12 or so. Quiet place - great for dates etc. Not really a place to bring kids. Quaint bar.

An impromptu trip to Ames lead me to Aunt Maude's. The menu I viewed online had a couple of scallop dishes that had me interested. When we arrived, the there were no scallops on the menu. They change out their menu frequently, and had a couple of swordfish dishes. I had the cilantro crusted swordfish on a tamale cake with... More

Though pricey, the food, service and atmosphere are worth it. My husband had steak with thin onion rings and garlic mashed potatoes. I had wonderful salmon . I enjoyed the arugula and we both loved their bread! We hope to return to dine on the patio sometime and are surprised to find such fine cuisine in such a small community.

We were seated in a booth in the bar. We weren't real hungry so we ordered appetizers and wine. I had the New Orleans style BBQ shrimp with French bread. The shrimp were served in an etoufee-type sauce and the bread was excellent. Others in our group ordered a quinoa salad and corn cake special. Everything was excellent. Our server... More

Aunt Maude's seems to have been around for ever. It has been at the same location since before I attended Iowa State back in the early '80s. Many fine establishments have come and gone in Ames since then. Aunt Maude's is still around for a reason. Aunt Maude's is probably the most upscale restaurant in Ames. The prices reflect this... Food is OK, seldom really good, prices quite high. I come occasionally for the atmosphere, which is very homey on the restaurant side -- great booths! -- and quite lively and fun on the bar side.

We were looking for a place to have a nice family dinner while in town for basketball. After reading the reviews regarding the battle for best place to eat in Ames we decided to go to Aunt Maude's for dinner (we had breakfast at The Cafe). The food here was amazing! The atmosphere was great and the service was good!... More

started with the duck breast which we all enjoyed... the soup that (leek & ??) came with the entrée was EXCELLENT!! No complaints on any of the mains: lamb, tri-tip, chili rubbed filet, & prime rib. Everyone's plate was "happy". Did bread pudding & choc mousse for dessert...again, "happy". Wines by glass are moderate quality and price above moderate, but... More

I've eaten here many times over the past 30+ years, and some things have gotten better, some things have regressed. The atmosphere is good, but the menu selection is limited, and the quality of the steaks in particular are just average at best. The salads are pretty good, and the service is excellent. But bring you wallet.
