Different but still great

I worked here back when I was in college in the 80's so I wanted to take my husband out to eat here (so he could picture the place I told so many stories about!). The decor has been updated considerably since then (in a good way - although part of me wished it hadn't for nostalgia's sake). The... read more

The scotch pours were delicious but came with big-city prices. We choose two appetizers: the BBQ shrimp and croquettes. If your order the shrimp, be prepared for salad shrimp in a strange-tasting cream sauce to be spooned over baguette slices. The waitress said it's quite popular, but for us one bite was enough. The croquettes were bland. Most of our... More

We opted for the fish fry for a few reasons. One it was Friday and two the menu was very pricey. The fish was way over done and had no flavor. The sweet potato fries were breaded and didn't need to be. It made them too heavy. The only reason they got one star was because the service was good.... More

We had to wait, which was to be expected on the Friday before Valentines Day...The manager was very apologetic and we were seated pretty quickly, considering. Our waitress was terrific. She was always there when we needed a refill or anything, but didn't hover about as some do. Our food was delicious and more than enough. Will my husband and... More

4 of us had a post holiday lunch get together. we ate in the bar area, had Russ as our server/bartender. he did a great job knowing when to chat with us and when to just let us carry on our own conversation. food was very good and came out looking very nice also.

I agree with some of the reviews, i.e., good food, good service, somewhat pricey. If I were a resident in Ames, I'd dine here 1 out of 5-10 times I eat out. To use the ratings of Michelin, dine at this place if you happen to be in Ames. But, it's not worth a detour on a trip from, say,... More

The food here was excellent, as was the service. There were four in our party in town for a business meeting. We sat in the bar area. Very enjoyable, and very good.

Food was excellent, good portion sizes and great flavor. The price on the menu didn't match the price on the check and the menu was pretty pricy.

Business dinner. The room was nice and quiet, food was great, decent wine selection for a small town and the service was great.

I had dinner with some business associates on a late weekend evening. It's a dark restaurant with a lot of charm. The stained glass windows are beautiful. The appetizers were delicious! We had the goat cheese, seared tuna, and crispy calamari. Any one of them would have made a delicious meal. I had the spinach and salmon salad. It came... More
