Business stay in Ames

Wonderful quiet atmosphere, great food and service. The waiter was great in helping me make choices and I enjoyed everything he suggested. If I ever have occasion to visit Ames again, I would not hesitate to come back. A bit pricey, but very nice.

Ames is not known for it's excellence in restaurants but I consider Aunt Maude's to be the best the town has to offer. The food is varied - menu often changes. Reservations help. Cost is comparable to Perkins but the food is far superior. A little difficult to find the first time - on Main Street more or less across... More

We visit Aunt Maude's for our special occasions, with our 30th anniversary being the excuse for our May 2015 visit. We were disappointed on several fronts. You can almost always bank on the six-week specials they offer, but the chipotle swordfish was over-bathed in the chipotle sauce. A drizzled plate would have been better. Other than that, the swordfish, itself,... More

Ames is not known as the hotbed for fine dining (no offense Ames,) and we were searching fro something more casual than not... we stumbled across Maude's and were quite impressed. Small, quiet, private atmosphere allowed for easy conversation. Full bar, nice salmon appetizer, and warm bread throughout made this a full course meal. The pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes... The scotch pours were delicious but came with big-city prices. We choose two appetizers: the BBQ shrimp and croquettes. If your order the shrimp, be prepared for salad shrimp in a strange-tasting cream sauce to be spooned over baguette slices. The waitress said it's quite popular, but for us one bite was enough. The croquettes were bland. Most of our... More

We opted for the fish fry for a few reasons. One it was Friday and two the menu was very pricey. The fish was way over done and had no flavor. The sweet potato fries were breaded and didn't need to be. It made them too heavy. The only reason they got one star was because the service was good.... More

I worked here back when I was in college in the 80's so I wanted to take my husband out to eat here (so he could picture the place I told so many stories about!). The decor has been updated considerably since then (in a good way - although part of me wished it hadn't for nostalgia's sake). The menu... More

We had to wait, which was to be expected on the Friday before Valentines Day...The manager was very apologetic and we were seated pretty quickly, considering. Our waitress was terrific. She was always there when we needed a refill or anything, but didn't hover about as some do. Our food was delicious and more than enough. Will my husband and... More

4 of us had a post holiday lunch get together. we ate in the bar area, had Russ as our server/bartender. he did a great job knowing when to chat with us and when to just let us carry on our own conversation. food was very good and came out looking very nice also.

I agree with some of the reviews, i.e., good food, good service, somewhat pricey. If I were a resident in Ames, I'd dine here 1 out of 5-10 times I eat out. To use the ratings of Michelin, dine at this place if you happen to be in Ames. But, it's not worth a detour on a trip from, say,... More
