We were looking for a place to have a nice family dinner while in town for basketball. After reading the reviews regarding the battle for best place to eat in Ames we decided to go to Aunt Maude's for dinner (we had breakfast at The Cafe). The food here was amazing! The atmosphere was great and the service was good!... More

started with the duck breast which we all enjoyed... the soup that (leek & ??) came with the entrée was EXCELLENT!! No complaints on any of the mains: lamb, tri-tip, chili rubbed filet, & prime rib. Everyone's plate was "happy". Did bread pudding & choc mousse for dessert...again, "happy". Wines by glass are moderate quality and price above moderate, but... More

I've eaten here many times over the past 30+ years, and some things have gotten better, some things have regressed. The atmosphere is good, but the menu selection is limited, and the quality of the steaks in particular are just average at best. The salads are pretty good, and the service is excellent. But bring you wallet.

Overall, this is a pretty good place to dine. The decor is inviting and the dishes hit the mark of being above-average, but not excellent. The best thing on the menu [after dining here 20-plus times] is the filet. The service is above-average to excellent. This restaurant would be excellent overall if there was a little more variety on the... More

The prime rib is the best around. Try it blackened! The Tequila Chicken Fettuccine is unbelievable! They rotate a number of menu items, keeping things fresh.

Ate there alone during a business trip. Had the tri-tip steak sandwich with Blue cheese coleslaw. Tasted great. Wait staff was all business. As a solo traveler, I appreciate a little conversation from the locals, It makes a restaurant more welcoming

Aunt Maude's has always been one of the few good restaurants in Ames. In recent years, this position has been challenged by The Cafe and now +39. We went there last night after having not been there in a while and were very disappointed. I had the prime rib, which was a bit dry, and my wife had the Tri-tip,... More

First time eating here so ordered cautiously with an old standby... a burger. Although slightly on the high end pricewise for a burger, it wasn't just hamburger but a sirloin burger you can order as rare as you like and it was worth every penny. Very tasty and the service was above average, too! We live a good 45 miles... More

Even though I stated it wasn't the best meal I've ever had at a restaurant, you can't go wrong by dining here! The food is always great, and the service is second to none! Oh yes! The atmosphere is very pleasant and the waiters/waitresses are very accommodating! This is not one of your "chain" style of restaurants that my wife... More
