Great place for breakfast!

I have taken many international friends to the Grove Cafe. It gives them a feel for how cafes used to be, small, cozy, small business, locally owned, great food at an affordable price, smells like bacon and sausages.

Went here for breakfast on sunday at 8:30. I got the last seat at the counter. This place is the definition of an old time cafe. Most of the stuff in the place was older than half of the customers and that is a good thing. They grind their own coffee which I did not expect but you can taste... More

If you go here, order the pancakes. If you order anything else they put your order aside and only take care of the easy to make pancake. 6 tables after us sat down and finished before our food was ready. When it finally came it was on a single very small dish as if they were afraid to wash an... More

I got takeout of hot need sandwich here like we used to have at home. The food was hit, fresh and tasted homemade. The place is older but good service. Marcydiner tantrum scale of 5/5-no screaming kids.

The home made Pancakes are awesome!!!! My wife also loved the omelet. The Grove Cafe is an old fashion place. Small like cafe's were in the 1920's. But the food is great.

I wanted a good breakfast after a bad experience in my hotel. I was looking for something like home/moms & pops kind of place. I found this place and love it so much I returned the the next. The open early, is not big, but the food and the price are perfect. You can see how they cooking the food.... More

I get to Ames about once or twice a year to visit a lifelong friend, and we usually have a breakfast or two at the Grove. It's a small, quaint cafe on Main Street with limited seating. The help is quick and efficient, the food comes quickly and is hot and well cooked, the coffee flows freely and the atmosphere... More

My eggs were nicely done and I liked the hash browns, clearly made from fresh potatoes. The ham, though, came from a can and was terrible. I ate about half, hoping that it would get better, but it was only a slight step above Spam. The serving was a nice size--not overly large at many restaurants, but I am not... More

I was looking for a local non-chain option for breakfast. The Grove popped up in my search, and they open early at 6, so this worked. It's easy to find on Main Street, although it's small so don't drive by to fast or you'll miss it. I was surprised by how unassuming it is. But I like that. I'm not... More

I was so very disappointed with the food and atmosphere. I love breakfast. It's my favorite meal. I stopped in and immediately felt overwhelmed by the noise level and busyness of the staff. I stood by a small, narrow doorway space waiting for direction for about 2 minutes. The establishment is TINY. Seating is very limited. Staff were friendly but... More
