The lay out of the restaurant is very down home, small town, and classic which is the only thing that kept me from rating this place terrible. The menu selection is slim pickings. The food portions are sparse and over priced for the portions. The food itself has little to no taste - extremely bland. They take cash only so... More

The motto of this place is "This ain't home and you can't always have it the way you want it." It is a local establishment and it, as well as the owner, is an aquired taste. No pun intended. That being said, any negative review posted is a reflection of the poster, not the restaurant. Simple food for down to... More

I've been to this small niche of a restaurant a few times, all of which required a decent wait due to the small size of the place, and fairly often waiting consists of being scrunched by the door or waiting outside. The food here is great, I always enjoy it and the pancakes are pretty phenomenal. The cakes are thick... More

The atmosphere is awful, it's run down. The service was awful and our server (older guy) was rude and pushy and treated us like crap. I didn't want celery in my omlet and he was rude and said he couldn't do that and told I would like it even though I had an omlet previously there with celery and hated... More

we ate breakfast at the Grove Cafe about 7:30 Saturday morning - place was packed and SRO about 15 minutes later - we had 6 people , so a kindly patron moved down a seat at the counter so we could sit at the only table for 6 - appreciated that - waitress was polite and quick - we ordered... More

This place was a regular favorite of ours, with the previous owners. We went with our little kids and 80+ year old parents to celebrate my wife finishing chemo. The 6 of us squeezed into a booth and ordered. After waiting nearly an hour and watching other people come, eat, and leave; I waived over the owner. He yelled at... More

The food is good, the service friendly, and food arrives quickly. There is very limited seating - you will likely have to wait. The pancakes are HUGE. You should definitely check it out. It has been featured on Road Food. Great value - lots of food for the cost.

As a loyal and continuous customer, my experience with The Grove began 40 years ago with the seminal owners, Gay and Jim Stone. They created the idiom that is The Grove as we have come to know and love it. The place had a shopworn, comfortable feel even back then. It was, and is, a place where people gather for... More

Traditional Main Street diner known for their famous pancakes with a secret ingredient. Great place to go for breakfast, but they are opened for lunch also. It is well worth the stop

Everybody in Ames knows and loves the Grove Cafe. They have the best pancakes in the world, fast service, and a cute diner atmosphere. Go early, or you'll be waiting in line for a spot (before 8:30 is the best time for breakfast, or around 1 if you're going for lunch).
