Good, but not great BBQ. Their product is always consistent. Meat tastes good and is smoky, sauces are bland. I do like their sausage links, good and not too greasy. Saucy Southerner is a popular sandwich among my family. Place is always busy, so plan to wait or show up at non-busy hours.

this place is always busy. we usually have never waited more than a handful of minutes for a table though. its a well oiled machine. they even have a large lcd tv playing kids movies with raised bench seating. (polar express was playing during our visit). this place has a home cooked feel to it and your meal is delivered... More

That's what I think of when someone says Hickory Park. Was good 15 years ago. Now it's rushed and meats are barely smoked. A victim of its own success. too bad. Go to Battles's bbq instead. This place is like McDucks now. Tastes the same bland way every time. Yuck.

Great barbeque, great variety, great experience. When people come from afar, and the huge parking lot is always full, it sends a message that you need to stop in. Even the non-barbeque food I'd great. They serve a great bowl of chili! Come hungry if you choose a combo platter! A lot of food on one plate. The experience dining... More

Visited not really knowing what to expect, and we definitely left happy. Portions are more than adequate, service was excellent, and we were served pretty quickly. Menu offers many options, including some interesting ones such as a "liquorice flavored milkshake", which tasted awesome. If I'm ever in Ames again, I will definitely be returning again.

This is one of Ames' must eat at restaurants (or so I was told by a Cyclone Alum). The prices were good and the portions were large but I have to say I have had far better BBQ in a number of other places. Maybe it was an off night but I wasn't impressed. I did like the sausage as... More

This place was recommended by co-workers that have travelled through the area and it did not disappoint. The food was outstanding, service was quick (a challenge in a vary busy restaurant) and the value was excellent. I'll be back for sure!!

My husband, son and I ate at this restaurant on November 22, 2014, and this was my first time eating there (my husband and son had eaten there before). We were all very satisfied with our food and the large portions, as well as the quick service. Would highly recommend this restaurant!
