After hearing about Hickory Park for years, we finally tried it. We were part of a large group - 17 people - and they had no trouble accommodating us. Yes, we did wait, but only about 15 minutes because it was before 5:00. Service was fast and accurate, even with the bill split 8 ways.
I had the Hickory Park...

Great food, service so so. NIce, very reasonably priced place to eat for families, couples. Can seat several people together at a table if going with a group.
It isn't just a restaurant, it is a meeting place for families, friends, classmates, and so much more! I start my meal with cheese balls and a large diet Dew. They provide plenty of drink options too. The food selections are huge and down-home; imagine a platter with a large slice of beef, a large slice of turkey, and a...

Just rolled into town and the local folks recommended this place. The design is 1920s complete with all the signage and architecture. It is a great atmosphere. This is a large restaurant that moves quickly. Don't worry about the short wait; It is worth it. I had the como-sausage and beef plate. The food is very good but not outstanding....

When in Ames you can't miss a stop at Hickory Park. Always great food, excellent service and friendly staff. If you go once, you'll stop every time you have a chance.

Worth noting it is particularly 'meat-heavy' in its choices but they do make bean burgers which my vegetarian friends really enjoyed!! The saucy southerner comes recommended by many as does the restaurant in general.
I had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries and macaroni and cheese. For the dessert, I had the "Peppermint Patty". Large selection of meals and desserts. Waitress was fantastic!
If you are in Ames say for an event related to Iowa State University this place makes a great stop on the way in or out of town.
They specialize in smoked and grilled meats of all combinations (beef, pork, chicken) and have generous servings for the amount paid. When on the coast eat seafood, when in Iowa eat the...
