The food was absolutely wonderful and the waitors were on top of when you were running low on your drink, they didn't ask you if you wanted more..Instead they just brought you another drink! The ice cream was even amazing :)

Based on some of the negative reviews, we were apprehensive. When we drove up and saw literally dozens of people waiting outside (including two large groups of teens) we weren't sure it was worth the wait. But we were meeting friends, so we stuck it out. They promised us only a 40 to 50 minute wait, and they delivered. The... More

This place is huge...décor is like an old depot and the fragrance of BBQ is wonderful. The chicken and ribs were very tender and tasty, excellent baked beans, service was good, and portions generous. The dessert menu is on full size placemat, and if it is your birthday, you get a special price. Surprised on how reasonable the prices are.

Iowa natives rave about this place. I have no idea why. If not for their desert menu I would have given them a 1 rather than 2 rating. Loud. Poor service...they messed up the delivery of the food and the check. The food..well..there are few good choices in Ames. Brisket was seriously undercooked dry. And tough. There was also a... More

This place had such a great from everyone I know in Ames so I was very excited to go. I think they must have all been high because the only thing that was true was the portion size. The meat was dry the sauce is very watery and the waitress was awful I had to go find her to get... More

This is the restaurant everyone hears about when they come to Ames. Worth the trip once or twice. If you come during tournament weekends (soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc.) come early. The food and ice cream are decent, the beer selection is sparse, the atmosphere is festive.

We went here to taste the food as we were considering them as a potential caterer for our son's upcoming wedding. It's a verrry big place, 451 seats and the wait on a Sunday early afternoon was 20-30 minutes which I understand is usual. Hostess was very perfunctory and while not unpleasant was not necessarily pleasant either, they gathered our... More
