I found this place rated number three among all restaurants in Ames by Trip Advisor. It doesn't deserve it. The pizza is okay. It's not bad, but it's not fantastic either. I had a pepperoni and sausage pizza with the house specialty Denver crust. This is a whole-wheat crust. I just don't think it goes well with pizza. I didn't... More

I may not be objective about this pizza, since I decided from a young age that this is my favorite pizza in the world. We ordered an Italian sausage on thick wheat (Denver) crust. Especially on the thick crust pizza, never order extra cheese at Great Plains. The thick red sauce is covered with a thick layer of dense cheese.... More

Ordered a pizza for delivery while staying in Ames. The toppings were fresh and fantastic. They have a variety of crusts including whole wheat which was delicious. Be careful as the pizza is very filling. You definitely get your moneys worth!!

Staying at a hotel in Ames on a road trip home, we were tired and decided to order in, did not want, greasy or low quality pizza. Found GPS&D on TA and decided to give it a try!! We were very fortunate to have chosen this pizza place, amazing pizza, we had one of the house specials, the Buffalo, with... More

Great Plains is an Ames institution. You have to try it if you are in town. The thick crust is tremendous and you can get honey to go with it. I actually prefer the thin pizza, but they really are both great. There are also a variety of types of crust and creative toppings.

A unique and delicious detour from the pizza that we all take for granted. Plentiful in every respect, and consistently satisfying. The thin crust is more conventional, but with the varieties and ingredients everyone should be able to find something to enjoy. And the pizza isn't the whole story; thy one of their hearty sandwiches. Gordy and Catman created something... More
