The best deep dish pizza in Ames

No question, Great Plains has made it for several decades because the pizza is the best. The unique, hearty, deep dish pizza in not only the best in Ames, but rivals Chicago deep dish.

Had pizza for Sunday lunch as we drive across the country. Many choices for crust. We had the Denver. Reminded us of beaujo's in Colorado (with honey for crust). Thick crust, slightly underdone, for a chewy center. I liked it. My wife thought it was too doughy. Our main problem was too much cheese. Of course, this is how pizza... More

Drove 6 hours to have the best pizza ever!! Thick crust, cheesiest cheese, great sauce. Honey for the crust is like having dessert!

Great Service and great pizza. The potato crust was good, very dense and heavy but will probably go for something a bit lighter next time.

For new customers it's a place you walk into and go up to counter to order your pizza and drinks at the counter. Then you take your silverware napkins etc to a table. When your number is called you go get your pizza. The pizza varieties are 4 types of crust and numerous types of pizza combinations . Very good... More

Good variety of crust and topping, No wait staff have to order at counter and if busy seating could be an issue.

i worked here about 30 years ago for 2 weeks in college, then i started a higher paying/less caloric job as a bookkeeper. This pizza is amazing! I would recommend the thick wheat "Denver" crust with your favorite toppings. Over lunch they sell by the slice and one is enough, although i will admit that my husband and I, about... More

Good quality with a little bit of creativity in their crusts. More of a thick crust type of pie so you won't leave hungry.

The pizza was great. We ordered the thick wheat crust. It was a little tough. The flavor of the toppings was delish! We were also told by a local to dip the crust in honey, not bad. If we are able to visit again we will do a thinner crust.

We ate here in Ames while in town for a weekend. A month later, we were in Des Moines and made the trip to Ames just to eat here again! Awesome crust and perfect with honey on it. Good customer service, plenty of seating, normal wait time for pizza. We will always stop here when we are in the area.
