I lived in Cedar Rapids for 8 years and used to go to the Amana Colonies quite frequently. I returned after almost 30 years and was a bit disappointed. The portions shrunk dramatically and prices spiraled upward. Service was quick, but the waitress seemed to want to rush us along. Since we were dining with friends we had not seen... More

Originally from Iowa, we would yearly make a pilgrimage with family to eat and share stories. Many have passed as of this writing but the memories of gathering there for family dining and stories, play easily through my mind. Chicken was a little skinny this last time:) but the German foods are the true attraction.

We met several friends for a dinner at the Ox Yoke. We have been trying to catch up with friends in various Iowa cities before we eventually move from the midwest. Three of them had never been there before and really enjoyed the food choices. The date of one of our friends told her after seeing the menu he would... More

We ordered 'family style' , there was SO much food! All of it was delish. The strawberry preserves were awesome, the coleslaw and potatos the best! And that was just the side dishes! The main dishes were even better. The pies and cakes on the dessert cart were all homemade. Make sure your hungry when you go to the Ox... More

The Ox Yoke Inn is a tradition in the village of Amana, one of the seven Amana villages. It is a ten minute ride north of exit 225 on I80, about 20 minutes west of Iowa City, Iowa. (We stop for lunch or dinner while driving from Chicago to Nebraska or KC, MO.) The food is German/Iowa, with Saurbratten, Schnitzels,... More

We both had sandwiches. Mine was a chicken salad. Hubby had a chicken schnitzel. They were both delicious. The problem I had with this place is that the sandwiches were good, but we paid more than $27 for two sandwiches! That is ridiculous. This is an over-rated tourist trap.

The Ox Yoke always offers a great German/American meal. Will always plan to eat here whenever in the area! Try the wine sampler if you haven't tried any of the local wines.

we were there on 7/26/14 at about 2pm, so it wasnt too busy. The citrus chicken plate contained a small chicken breast in "special marinade". That marinade was soy sauce (so it was salty and tasted like nothing other than soy sauce). The fruit salsa has so many peppers, onions, garlic in it, my friend and I could not taste... More

We enjoyed a wonderful buffet served family style as a special offer over the 4th of July weekend. The meat was great, side dishes satisfying and included drink and desert. Had two grand kids with us who ate for free. Service was very good. Special meal did not include German specialties but overall a great meal.
