Family style American food

Saying the food is "German" is a stretch. A nice enough place in Amana. Service was OK and so was the food. I would characterize the quality as "diner-ish".

We went here for Valentine's Day, and had steak and shrimp, with the traditional family style side dishes. Lots of delicious food, quiet atmosphere, in a historic building. Very reasonable prices, too. I have gone here before and have always had great experiences.

Took my family to the Ox Yolk, for lunch. It wasn't very busy that day, so we were seated right away. The service was bad, at best. We ordered our meals family style, and were given cottage cheese, lettuce salad and bread to share. For or meals we ordered, two weiner schnitzel, and one catfish dinner. The catfish was so... More

I want to apologize for the unsatisfactory service and food. So that we may prevent this from happening again some specific information would be helpful. If you would take the time to respond with the following information: What month and day were you here? Your server's name as they wear name badges and it is printed on the upper left... More

My husband and I were here this past weekend during "Winterfest". We've been to Amana several times but usually not at the right time to stop and have a meal. We decided we were going to go hungry and make a point to stop at the restaurant. The decor is nothing to write home about. We were seated in the... More

the whole family went there this past weekend and I think we enjoyed it, except maybe for the person who had to pay. A little pricey. Very good food and plenty of it. Not fancy sauced up. Family style, I believe they called it.

Great family style restaurant in the beautiful Amana colonies. Lots of yummy side dishes with my chicken schnitzel. The service was great as was the food. The one thing I would say it was a little on the pricey side, but I suppose this is because the area is touristy. Would definately eat there again.

The food was amazing. I had the jagerschnitzel and my husband had the sauerbraten. They were both to die for! We opted to share our meal "family style" so we had unlimited refills of sides like fried potatoes and gravy, cottage cheese, sauerkraut, rye bread. They do get very busy so I suggest you make a reservation.

Food was good. We ordered the family style meal. The fried chicken they brought out and served to us was raw on the inside. This sort of ruined the experience for me.

We chose to dine here our first night in Amana. We stopped by in the afternoon to check the menu and were told we should make a reservation if we wanted to dine there that night. We did and to our surprise, there were only 2 other tables occupied in the 2 large dining rooms. We are not fans of... More

Did not live up to our expectations. Went for a Sunday brunch, and expected different than the normal brunch offerings, so we were disappointed. I will have to admit the dessert was very good. If I went there again I probably would order off the menu. A lot of people were ordering off the menu, and their meals looked good.... More
