My wife and I are taking a mini-excursion to the Amana Colonies in Iowa. Our first meal was at the Colony Inn off of 47th Ave. It is a family style restaurant, where the sides and salads are served family style. The salads came out first. There was a regular salad with a buttermilk dressing, dill cottage cheese and sauerkraut... More

We were disappointed in our recent breakfast at this restaurant. It is very quaint on the outside, as is the entire area. However, our waitress had a large number of tables to handle and it was impossible to get her attention for anything. Breakfast is served family-style, with refills, which might be nice if you could get service. But then... More

This is our go to when we are even close to this area. Great for family style. We stopped for lunch. I shared the Ruben since I wanted home made rhubarb pie. My son wanted to know if we could have a restaurant like this in So. Cal. Since "all the food there is fake." The only sauerkraut I have... More

We do it every year. Usually we come as a small group from a nearby rally, but they can handle a group that varies in size. The more the merrier.

I took my parents there for their 57th Anniversary. I made reservations ahead of time. I strongly suggest that you order off their lunch menu instead of their dinner menu unless you really want the meat! Lunch menu offers smaller portions. Everything off both menus features their famous "Family style refills": sauerkraut; cottage cheese; salad w/ dressing; REAL mashed potatoes;... More

Both the service and the food were bad. First the service. It was Easter Sunday, but not that buisy. Should have been the first clue not to go there. The waitress may have been inexperienced, but if that were the case, she should have had someone training her. Had to ask for refills on drinks, did not get our sides... More

Sunday morning breakfast was delicious! There is a huge amount of food, so come hungry. It is served family style, but there are infinite refills if you want them.

The food is ok but the treatment by the old woman at the front desk was the worst ever. I actually overheard her tell an employee that she hates people and it was more than obvious. It turns out, she is the owner's wife. The prices are way too high for the quality of food that you receive even though... More

Our family has been to the Colony Inn numerous times for breakfast and dinner. We live a short distance from the Amana Colonies (less than 20 miles). In general, we like the food and the service has always been fine. We arrived to at the Colony Inn on a very busy Saturday night. We were told we would need to... More
