Awesome sauce

Stopped for dinner while traveling thru Altoona and this restaurant was very busy. We thought it would take forever to get service and food but we were so wrong. We got to Jethros at least three times a month. We usually go on Saturday afternoon for lunch and to watch basketball or football on TV.

We followed our noses. I shared 2fir1 wings and a rack of ribs with my guy. The food and the service were both great. Our drinks were just ok. I plan to return.

Was in Des Moines for a wrestling tournament. Have always wanting to eat at Jetho's BBQ so went to the closest one in Altoona, Iowa across from the Prairie Meadows. We had the ribs and wings. They are use a Memphis style rub which is different from most BBQ joints in the Des Moines area which use KC style. My... More

While traveling through Iowa, I spotted a highway sign for BBQ near Altoona. What the hell, I'm hungry an game for adventure so I searched out Jethro n' Jake's Smokehouse. It was late but they were still open. I ordered the usual BBQ with sides to go. While waiting I was offered a soft drink and conversation, a nice touch.... More

I visited Jethros for lunch on a Tuesday. They have a 2 fer wing special. I went ahead and actually ate 20 wings. Enough for 2 days. The wings were very good. I had a asst. of sauces. I asked for something a bit hotter and was given the hot buffalo. Nice,,,,,my lips were warmed perfectly. Not a flame, but... More

We went to the Jethros in Altoona because we really like the one in Ankeny. It was crowded, the service was slow and we were disappointed in the food. I had BBQ turkey and was expecting sliced turkey. Instead what I received resembled what I would expect in pulled pork. My wife had the ribeye based on some of the... More

I had a family lunch at Jethro's as our family was looking for some good BBQ. But we didnt find it here. The slab of rib was served on a large metal dish hanging off both ends. The size was were my positive impression ended. The ribs have a very heavy chili powder rub. Most good rubs have some chili... More

Jethro's in Altoona serves the finest ribeye you will ever eat. It simply melts in your mouth and just perfectly seasoned and prepared. Side dishes are also great. We had the baked beans, jalapeno cream corn, and coleslaw. The beans are very good with a nice not-too-sweet flavor. Prepare to share the creamed corn: it is cream cheese with corn,... More
