After trying Italian beef sandwiches from many places, Johnnie's Beef wins hands down for the tastiest Italian beef sandwich. It is the combination of spices in the gravy that makes the sandwiches unique. We even order ahead 2 or more lbs of Johnnie's Italian beef for our out-of-town guests, so they can enjoy the best tasting Chicago beef sandwiches. (One... More

My father has been coming to this location for as long as I can remember,(and im 47). His favorite was the pepper and egg sandwich. I occasionally would walk over during my lunch break in high school. I personally prefer the Portillios roast beef. I think its superior to this places average, watered down flavor. With that being said, this... More

If Chicago is the home of Italian Beef, this is the best of the best. Tender slices of roast beef immersed in spicy soup-like gravy (for out of towners) on Italian bread and soaked in gravy. Put some Giardiniera and sauteed Green peppers on it and call it perfection. They are still under $4 for a plain beef. The fries... More

The title says it all. Had three beef sandwiches during Thanksgiving visit to the Heights. Johnnies, Heffy's, and Portillos. Johnnies was by far the best. Best sandwich, best service, best atmosphere, etc... They keep it simple. Small menu and they do everything right.

I got her fairly late in the evening but I received great service anyway. My sandwich was great, warm, fresh meat, fresh bread, and great gravy. I enjoyed this so much, I went back a second time.

I ordered four sandwiches and two fries. One sandwich was to be with sweet peppers. I did not get my sweet peppers. When I called the restaurant back they (Tony) said come back and get them. He also went ahead and said the employee put them on when they didn't. So I guess he is calling me a liar. Never... More

We ate at the original Johnnie several years ago and decided to try this location because we were in the area. Glad we did. The beef was so tender and favorable. The sweet peppers on top were cooked just right. If you don't want the juice dripping down your arms ask for it not to be dipped . A little... More

In the ongoing battle for Italian Beef supremacy in the Chicago area, Johnnies is a Grade A Prime contender. I lived in Chicago my first 54 years, and have eaten more than my share of Italian Beef sandwiches at most of the spots considered the best. I just returned to Chicago for a brief visit, and enjoyed the unique trademark... More

Johnnies is my daughters favorite places to go for a really good Italian Beef. The line moves quick and the food is always good. But the best reason to go to Johnnies is for the Italian Ice, they give you a nice big cup for a fair price and it is great. Two flavors lemon and watermelon, I always get... More
