Wonderful Vegetarian Food, Friendly Staff, Old-Fashioned Basic Ambience

This little dive is amazing! Food from around the world, much of it tasting like the traditional Southern food on which I was raised, but meeting my vegetarian needs of today.

I love love love this place! I have been to The Grit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each experience is amazing. Although, I will admit that breakfast is my favorite. Try the cheese grits. You won't be disappointed!

But maybe it wold be if I were a vegan or eating wholly organic. I can't speak to that. However, for a person who eats normally, the food was not all that tasty. In addition, they were out of several things that sounded like they might have been better than what we eventually ordered. I will try another Athens restaurant... More

I love visiting new places and finding vegan or vegetarian restaurants. I was thrilled with this one. When you walk in, there’s a counter area and several tables. Then, there’s another room with a lot more tables. There’s a chalkboard with all the day’s specials, be sure to look at it. I had a veggie platter: collard greens, “sausage” stuffing,... More

I recently went to The Grit for the first time for lunch. It was packed, but we got seated quickly. The servers were working very hard. We ordered an appetizer, a cup of soup, and two lunch entrees. Everything we got was delicious! I'm not a vegetarian, and neither was my lunch companion, but we really enjoyed all of the... More

I had not been to the Grit in over 10 years so it was great to see the place doing so well. Attentive wait staff and great environment. My breakfast burrito was top notch. I love the casual atmosphere, but professional delivery. A must when in Athens.

I so wanted to give this restaurant five stars. Super cute location. Very nice wait staff. Took a very long time to even see out waiter. Took an extraordinary amount of time to get our food. Like an hour. We enjoyed our beer potato cheese soup we got for an app. The mashed potatoes wit goat cheese were good, would... More

We ate a Sunday brunch here after a long, crowded wait. Pretty standard fare with some refinements - real maple syrup is availalbe, real butter, really fine bread that was obviously locally made. Difficult to eat here if you are gluten-free or cheese free. There is cheese or milk in almost everything. I ordered an egg sandwich, telling the waiter... More
