Grit, Grits No big difference

For fathers day my wife, my daughter and I went to The Grit Restaurant in Athens. Even though it was a second choice ( the Argentinian rest. one block away was supposed to be open at 11 but did not open till 12) the food and service were very good. It has the ambiance of a 70's diner, and I... read more

Ok, I'm not the biggest fan of Grit. Probably because I'm not a vegetarian. However, my meal was ok. But, if you like to eat healthy food, give it a try. You'll probably like it.

Love the Grit - always have - been around forever. Great vegetarian dishes and always, always delicious. Favorite is the Golden Bowl or the monday curry (esp Massaman)

I am not a vegetarian, nor am I gluten free but the food was delicious! Good quick service and a fun place with a great atmosphere in an old building style right downtown. I Will go back often.

Ate dinner here while at a conference. Friendliness and helpfulness were immediately evident. The service was fast enough for us to get fresh, hot entrees, and we enjoyed the hummus appetizer while we waited. The hummus was delicious and kept us busy. I also ordered the noodle bowl of the day, which was simply delicious. I'm not Vegan but was... More

It's.an Athens institution! In an eclectic town with a lot of unique dining options, The Grit is an authentic, quirky gem. Don't eat here because you are a vegetarian, eat here because the food is great and the desserts are to die for (Death by Chocolate cake is my recommendation).

Walked into this place in the mood for Greek food, tried my first falafel and their seitan gyro. Turns out, I love falafel. Everything here is vegetarian and/or vegan. Pretty cool place, friendly staff, and healthy food (I assume). I am curious to go back and further explore the menu.

Vegan?? you really wouldn't notice here, the food is so good that you don't miss the actual meat. i do brunch here at least twice a month, always a great place to eat and as much fun to people watch. the wait can be rough when the UGA kids are in town but patience is a virtue.....and the food is... The Grit is a go-to. It's consistently good, with crowd-pleasing favorites (like their split pea dal or noodle bowls) that are permanent fixtures on an otherwise varying daily menu. The Grit is that place in town that sometimes you simply crave, but also have as your standard "I-can't-think-of-anything-to-eat" backup. There's always something there to make you full and happy!
