Had lunch here mid-week. Stopped in on a cold winter day. Great selection of vegetarian fare. Really did not miss the meat at all! Had the Mid-E platter and the vegetable plate. Very reasonable. Hummus was very good. LOVED the stuffed tomato. Brussel sprouts were a little undercooked, but the mustard sauce was delicious.

My friend and I ate at The Grit today 11.12.14. He had never eaten at a vegetarian restaurant before. He had the Black Bean Chili with sour cream and onion toppings. I had the Linguine with Roasted Pepper Cream Sauce, garden salad with house dressing, Focaccia bread, and to end the meal, Elvis Cake. It was middle afternoon and there... More

I've been to The Grit a couple of times when visiting Athens. I'm not a vegetarian, but I prefer food that is heavily toward the vegetable end of the spectrum. The Grit has a comfy, casual vibe and the food is pretty tasty. They don't have a particularly creative menu, but everything tastes good. I'd recommend trying the southern style... More

I love the food here and make it a point o always take out of town guests to eat here. The golden bowl and the specials are always outstanding. The yeast gravy is quite addicting and I highly recommend it over their mashers!!

Its not everyday you find a place where both meat and veg eaters are happy, but this place is THAT place! It is so nice to know I can order everything on the menu without asking if it has meat added (greens, sous, beans, etc...) AND have my meat eating family enjoy it right along with me without complaint! A... More

Had a birthday celebration recently at The Grit and the birthday girl is a vegan. I loved my noodle bowl and all of us raved about the food. Very friendly atmosphere and just a great celebration.

For 15 years a highlight of visiting Athens is to get a The Grit Golden Bowl with veggies and cheese! Lots of other good stuff too (except not crazy about their brunch) so give it a try! Very "Athens"

My gyro and black bean soup were tasty and had a good flavor. I forgot I wasn't eating meat. Give it a try.

very southern home like feel, lots of local there every time we go. Best potato pancakes anywhere, ever. Lots of good egg dishes and the grits are the best thing there, hence the name.. hey will not disappoint. and the biscuits are pretty amazing too
