Worth the Trip

This location is easy enough to find. It was clean & the young lady that took our order was friendly. We were there on a weekday, so it wasn't very busy. The burger was just okay. I prefer the chili dogs. They are yummy! I also love the Frosted Orange. It's so good! I got some of the Fried... read more

Really disappointing. After hearing that this was a great burger joint, I was left to think that people were kidding me. There are a number of fast food places that offer a better burger and fries. While it is nice to have police officers stationed at the door, the bullet hole in the front window was a little un-nerving.

This place is good to go to once, just to have the experience. But if it's your first or only time in Athens, there are better choices than the Varsity. The burgers are flat and wimpy and the fries are rubbery. It's like fair food, greasy and overpriced.

We visited just after Christmas when there were few students in town. Still the service was so slow that a manager joked that they must be "growing the onions for the onion rings." From the time we came in the same family groups were at the same registers (about 8 in all) for over 20 minutes. When we finally got... More

The Varsity is a tradition, not a food place. The food is par with what most buy from their local grocer and cook in the backyard, but the tradition behind the food is what makes it great. "What'll-ya-have?" rings throughout the line on busy gamedays, and the onion rings will provide you with the tastiest heart attack possible. Definitely visit... More

Good, Greasy food! No frills or fancy stuff, just good game day food! Love visiting here to get fast food that's as unique as Athens!!!

We were in town for the UGA/GT game this past weekend. Food was OK, nothing special. We were rethinking our decision to come in when we saw the permanent office for the police officer on duty! When the girl at the counter didn't wake up, (honestly, she was sleeping on her feet at the register!) one of the girls down... More

This is an old favorite in Athens. The burgers and dogs are good. They're small but simply order a couple and you'll be fine. These guys have wi-fi which was nice while being on the road.

The MANS review: What can I say, Its an institution!!! Anyone who has had a fried pie a la mode here at the Varsity knows....... Here is the scene: 10:00 pm Friday night before the Georgia Bulldogs / Auburn Tigers game, one of the conferences oldest rivalries. Key game for both teams. The streets of Athens are filled with the... More

Some places know how to make dining and experience and the varsity is the master of this. Go to the counter and get bowled over by "Whadayouhave". Order a plain hotdog and it becomes a naked tube steak. Order a hamburger with lettuce and it is " one through the garden". A plain old grilled cheese is good. Great onion... More
