Definitely a must visit

Guatemala's culture is definitely unique, and this restaurant helped my friends and me to understand Myan culture better. The food was amazing, entertainment was delightful, and learning how to make tortillas was obviously a highlight.

On our last night in Pana we turned to Trip Advisor to figure out where to eat. We wanted something authentic, not European or American so we ended up here. The atmosphere is great. It’s right on the street, the live music is great to see. The staff is super friendly. Pros: - Live music that is unique - Right... More

Traditional Guatemalan cuisine, interesting non alcoholic beverages, simply enchanting marimba music by the owner's daughters

Hands down the most entertaining and interesting night we had during our stay in Panajachel! The food was fantastic and the service was even better! We got to learn a huge deal about the Mayan culture from this family run restaurant and if we could, we would definitely go again!!

Our first visit was so much fun, we returned a few nights later. The food was excellent, the music was entertaining, and the cultural presentation by the owner a very fun surprise. A highlight was being taught how to make tortillas, which we have since practiced at home.

Don't miss Pinguino's if you are in Pana! It's way more than a meal. The sweet and captivating owner, Miguel Tzul, will give you a fun presentation about Guatemala. In one evening we learned the history of the marimba, the reasons men don't wear native dress anymore, the 23 Maia languages, and more. The man is passionate but very unassuming... More

This was an amazing experience eating here and learning about the story of Jose and his restaurant. Also very interactive and fun! Also while dining you will be able to enjoy the music of the marimba.

While most reviews talk about the family side of this restaurant and the entertainment of the restaurant, we went on a Sunday and no show was going on. In regards to the food, we ordered chicken tacos and garlic sausage tacos. The garlic sausage is what the staff called chorizo. This isn't a gringo type chorizo since it wasn't spicy.... More

The Pinguino family run restaurant on Santander in Panajachel is a must visit. The family entertains with marimba music while the father gives an historical background on Maya culture. This ethnic/indigenous flavor is followed by the family/friends band later in the evening playing contemporary music. Fun! Fun! Fun! The daughters are adorable and the mother in the kitchen with dad... More
