Traditional and gourmet Guatemalan food set on a large "palapa"style architecture. Upscale traditional decoration, local music and waiters with typical outfits; great for turists, out of town clients, families and local foodies. A wonderful Guatemalan experience right in the center of the Hotel zone.

Recommended experience in Guatemala city

I was in Guatemala for work and we visited Kacao twice. The food is really amazing, so I really recommend it to someone that wants to try the local flavors. The tapado ( soup) was to die for! and the service is very good. It is not cheap though!!

Great place that houses the most exquisite Guatemalan cuisine! Not only was the food delicious but the service was excellent. Definitely a comeback! Price range: $5 - $30 approx.

Guatemala City is not the safest place at night but the restaurant is close enough to safely walk from the Westin and Holiday Inn as long as it's not too late at night. The restaurant has a good ambience and mainly attracts tourists. Whilst not the best good we had in Guatemala, our choices were well cooked and tasty.

It's easy to pass by and not notice the grass roof over the entrance but this restaurant is certainly worth looking for. Close to a number of larger hotels, it is very convenient. The service was very good and the food far beyond my expectations. The nachos as a greeter piece are the best I've ever had--they're thicker and much... More

If you're lucky, it'll be raining when you visit Kacao, because with the dozens of candles and the thatched roof, the sound and smell of rain just enhances the experience. Specializing in kack-ik, this place also has some of the best bread in town - their coconut bread. Order tamales and kack-ik and you're in for a Guatemalan threat.

I'm a "just born" regarding Mayan food, but I guess Mayans had more recipes than the ones included in Kacao's menu, not my best option regarding quality-cost Let's try ArrinCuan ;)

2 minutes walk from the Westin Camino Real, recommended by our guides and in the Rough Guide, the restaurant is behind a small car park in a huge thatched room. Friendly meet and greet but v little English spoken, extensive menu, we ate cevice first which ended being a cold soup but was quite tasty, pork loin in abado sauce... More

Our group of four had an unfortunate experience at this establishment last week. First, the food: While the rest of the group was generally happy with their food, I was far from satisfied with mine. I had the most expensive dish on the menu at Q. 160. It was supposed to be a tenderloin steak. The mushrooms with it were... More
