Our fave for oysters raw

We only had a couple of hours in Apalachicola but we arrived hungry and decided to try 3 different oyster houses. Papa Joes was our first stop and truthfully they served up the best oysters. They were plump, fresh and COLD, exactly the way they should be. We have eaten lots of gulf and other... read more

I ordered the crab cake basket. Piping hot and very tasty. My husband had the shrimp basket but he tried the crab cake. He agreed it was very good. His shrimp was also great. It was lightly battered and cooked just right--not overcooked and dried out. French fries were basic fries but hot. I ordered the slaw and found it... More

Our hotel recommended this place and so glad we listened. Had raw and steamed oysters to start and were some of the best we've ever had. The seafood platter and fried oysters were fabulous. Our friends said the coleslaw and cheese grits were delicious. This place is very casual and much cheaper than some of the other restaurants in the... More

Went to get the baked oysters. Very disappointed. They came to us cool. Not hot at all Waitress was slow had to wait for our beer to long. We were given only one napkin to wipe our hands on. No plates for the oysters had to use our napkin. Then get up and get more ourself. Will not be back.

I reviewed this place when they were on the river and raved about it. I must admit we shunned it in this location. One day we were forced to eat here after not getting in any place else. Thank you fate! By far the best food we experienced in town and reasonable. The oysters were the biggest I've ever had.....huge!... More

Ok, Papa Joe's has moved. Its now a half-block off the main street. I was not expecting much. Rarely do restaurant moves work well. That is not the case with Papa Joe's. Papa is just as gregarious as he has ever been. He makes you feel welcomed. Start a conversation with him and he'll spin yarns whilst he is shucking... More

It is tucked away from the central lively area in town, but we had some great fish and chip, and fresh raw oyster on half shelves.

We are snowbirds who have frequented Papa Joe's for years. Today was our first visit to the new restaurant and, though it was very nice inside, our meals were not as good as they were when they were in the old building next to the river. My husband's raw oysters were large but just didn't seem as fresh as before.... More

Let me start by saying we've been coming here for years. The new place is nicer and looks more kept up, but it's not on the water anymore, which takes away from the ambiance. The staff all looks new to me. I guess the nice waitresses they had for years had to find other jobs when they closed down for... More

My family and I went here twice in the past week. Both times the calamari was odd. We all in my family are from the southern shores. Every place we every had real calamari it was served with the tentacles included. These never have tentacles just chewy oddly thick stretchy rings. That have a funny offish texture and taste. This...
