Oyster Heaven - when the Oysters are good!

Oysters vary in quality, even in Apalachicola where the oysters are king. Weather, amount of fresh water, etc can mean varying quality. Our fishing group went last night and had a great meal. Oysters on the half shell were average, not large but we're very good-a surprise because we've had a lot of... read more

My name is James “Terry” Tipton, Jr. I am a local and have lived in Apalachicola my entire life. My family had lunch at the Boss Oyster this past Sunday. May 17, 2015. We had a total of 14 people in our group. It was a special occasion as we were celebrating my nephew’s high school graduation. We were seated... More

When we order a seafood platter in a place that is almost hanging over the sea, we expect fresh, grilled seafood; or at least, that the waiter asks us in advance, how we want it cooked. Maybe because we are Italians; but in other Florida restaurants the waiter did ask us in advance. So we were disappointed when we got... More

Thanks for your recent visit to the Boss Oyster, Thanks for your review. You are right. The bay scallop is harvested during the summer months along the Florida Gulf coast for recreational purposes only. The calico scallop is commercially harvested from the bottom of the Florida continental shelf and is nearly indistinguishable from the bay scallop. More

We visited here on a Friday night. We sat out on the porch which had a lovely view of the bay. Once we opened the menu the prices were outrageous compared to other local restaurants which have fresh seafood. Oh well we thought we will try it. It may be so good we wont mind the big check. Out of... More

Rustic seafood restaurant directly on the Apalachicola River mouth as it flows into Apalachicola Bay. The locally sourced seafood is very fresh (same day's catch). Slightly overpriced with moderate to bad service. Visit them while you are in a good mood and the servers will treat you as a non-returning tourist and try to sap your positive energy. Ignore any... The restaurant was recommended by other patrons but we were sadly disappointed. We were on a sister's trip and we enjoy all types of food but this was pretty close to diner food at much higher prices. Service was crappy and the hostess had the dirtiest uniform I've ever seen. Sorry. I hope others have had a better experience than... More

Owned by Caroline's which is considerably nicer. Authentic Apalachicola oysters, but smaller than at Caroline's. Very casual. Smallish portion of grouper. Decent service. In spite of recommendations we received, in just wasn't much.

Been here before a few years ago and had the Oysters Rockefeller appetizers. This time they were not hot. We also had the Crab Cakes, we were not impressed. Beer was cold however. We'll skip it next time we're in town.

This used to be our favorite restaurant in Apalachicola. The view is still good and the service fine, but every time we go here it seems the portions are smaller and the price is higher. I got the grouper basket and got a little square of grouper for $18.
