Nice place, good food

Nice place to go for good German food. Portions were large. Place was nice and clean. Has a dining area, a separate bar section, and a deli/gift shop. Would definitely visit again.

We saw several reviews stating they did not like the 15% added to the bill but when we asked the waitress she gets part of it and the rest is for all staff in restaurant to get above minimum wage. I am good with that. Food was fantastic! several of us ordered different dishes so we could taste different things.... More

Just went to Helga's for the first and last time tonight. The food was good, the amount of food was good, but the prices are very high for what you get. I ordered a pork schnitzel with squash casserole and french fries for $15; my son got two bratwursts with spaetzle and sauerkraut for $14. Drinks (pop and ice tea)... More

The atmosphere and the food bring back wonderful memories of being in a Gasthaus! The deli and the small grocery area, along with coo-coo clocks are delightful. Be sure to save room for a homemade slice of apple strudel.

We found Helga's via YELP when we lived nearby. We went in and were surprised by the fact they offer an all you can eat schnitzel on Monday nights. It isn't veal for the all you can eat but the pork option instead. It was very good overall and even though the service has been lacking on occasion, I find... More

We like German food, so we went with some friends. It was good , but we have had better. The service was good, but we didn't like the Extra surcharge idea. May or may not go again.

Went for good ole fashion German meal with my brother and sister in law. Waitress was great! Manager was very friendly! Food was amazing!! Better than I could've imagined! We all ordered something different and shared. The red cabbage and mushrooms were outstanding. Brats and beer in the steins.....who could ask for more. They even have a deli where you... More

Once upon a time this was an excellent restaurant. That was before it moved from its old location in Hoffman Heights to its present one. There Helga herself was always present, and the food and ambience were exceptional. Now that it has relocated, you'll be fortunate if you see her on the premises. The building is noisy, the service poor... More

I’d wanted to try this restaurant because I like German cuisine and especially German beer. The bar showcases the owner’s worldwide fishing exploits. Unfortunately, his employees will never share his successes because they’ll never be able to afford to. Included in every bill is $4.50 “service charge.” I asked my waiter if that was supposed to represent the tip and... More

The food at this German place is good as well as the service, but that's not the real story here. I dined there as part of a party of three recently. When the bill came I noticed a line item titled "Service Fee" amounting to 15% of the bill tacked on at the end. When I questioned the server I... More
