We were in Aspen because of my love of the late great HST. I hate aspen. I think it has become everything HST was against. But we were there, and so we went and drank wild turkey to the good doctors memory. Then we got called out as Hunter Hunters, but we didn't mind. It was Labor Day weekend and... More

Feeling like going to a place that you just feel good and everybody knows your name? Go to Woody Creek Tavern. Well maybe everybody won't know your name unless you go often! This locals hangout is a second home to locals and stars as well. Great food, relaxing atmosphere, and that Jimmy Buffet "Relax" feature.

My husband has gone to the Woody Creek Tavern many times when he was on fishing trips and always described it as a great biker bar. Well, it is still a biker bar, but since he was last here, there are a lot more bikes of the Schwinn variety than the Harley variety. Located a few miles off Rt 82... More

Hunter S Thompson would rollover in his grave if he knew that his old haunt had turned into such a god awful tourist trap. Avoid unless you like seeing far too many people dressed in expensive bicycling outfits eating overpriced mediocre food.

I stopped here for drinks after riding the Rio Grande Trail from Aspen. The waitress seemed unfriendly and made an issue out of the fact I wanted to keep an eye on my bike that was parked in the front, as if I was personally insulting her…. I considered getting an appetizer as she did not seem happy I was... More

We stopped here after riding 8 miles from Aspen. Quirky atmosphere, nice servers, cold beer. The food was good and they had daily.local specials that were popular.

Good burgers, colorful word famous bar and restaurant. Author Hunter S. Thompson used to hang out here with a few Hollywood celebrities. A little far away from the Aspen/Snowmass crowd, but worth the drive to get to. Waitress was awesome. Only bad thing is that they don't take credit cards, so if you are with big group bring plenty of... More

Some of my favorite restaurant "finds" are hole-in-the-wall kinds of places, and if the Woody Creek Tavern were anywhere other than where it is it'd succeed admirably at achieving that awesome vibe. As it is, it's far too well-known as Hunter S. Thompson's haunt and far too close to all of the Aspen pretty people to fit that description any... More

We go to Aspen at least 2 or 3 times a year. Each time we HAVE to go to Woody Creek Tavern. I think it is our favorite place in the Aspen area. Good margaritas, great food, love the ambience. Not to mention the super waitresses! If you go on Wed or Sat you can get their Filete Tampiquena skirt... More

We had been there about 10 years ago and it had not changed (other than having Guinness on tap). It is a little place with a small bar, a couple of t.v's and a lot of ambiance. Good company, good beer and good appetizers made for a fun evening. Service was very attentive and prompt. Yes, when you are outside... More
