Authentic Chinese

This little place on Sumner Street, off the busyness of Crescent is worth walking a block for. A Chinese family runs it, cooks and serves and were very attentive. The food is your basic staple Chinese, but everything was fresh, hot and served very quickly. We had Lo Mein and Beef and Broccoli... read more

Decent food, but if you are a "foodie", you may want to skip this restaurant. If you are on vacation and want exceptional dining experience, you may want to skip this restaurant.

In the 25 years we've been going to Catalina, I'm not sure I've seen another Chinese restaurant??? We have eaten at Mr. Ning's Garden many times and found it to be a good value. My wife is very picky and she loves the fried rice. Broccoli Beef is my favorite and my 3 daughters enjoyed everything from when they were... More

Small restaurant, clean, basic tables, not fancy. The food was actually quite good, and we had fun with the wait staff. Power went out during our meal, but lighting still ok, and the kitchen had power so we were able to finish our meal.

Well, so is the Combo (house) Fried Rice and Kung Pao Chicken. The waitress brought us the Chinese Red Pepper condiment to add to our Kung Pao and Combo Rice to adjust the hotness UPward. She called the crushed red peppers with oil "lao jow gen" (apologies to Chinese speakers everywhere) which added more dimensions to our meal. The Chinese... More

I think this is the only place to get Chinese food on the island so by default it is the best. The selection is really limited compared to restaurants on the mainland, but I guess that is to be expected with limited resources. The food was good and they have above average customer service!

I believe is the only Chinese restaurant in Avalon. Its staff is excellent and the food above average. But its expensive as most restaurants in Catalina are.

We have been visiting Mr. Nings's for years and always get their "Green Beans" I haven't been able to duplicate the recipe and so far no other restaurant I've encountered does them quite like they do either. The a la carte green beans come in a vegetarian and /non vegetarian version. The restaurant has been in business for years and... More
