this place is always packed, for a good reason, the food is awesome. the free salsa & chips are among the best. food is always excellent, for a very reasonable price. my favorite item is the chili verde burrito, but the carnitas torta is very good also.

My advice (if you're hungry): Get the Three-Item Combination Plate ($10.50) and make sure at least ONE of the items is a "Sope". I always order a "Carnitas Sope," a "Taco de Lengua," and another Taco with Carnitas or Al Pastor…..combined with the rice and beans and the free chips/salsa --- I always leave this place in a food coma.... We love El Portal -- sometimes even get there once a week. It's the perfect restaurant for a quick, delicious meal with draft beer. Our favorite dishes include the carnitas plate, the carnitas tostada, fish tacos, and occasionally the chile rellenos. Our kids swear by the burritos. Our golf buddies like it too. And even though occasionally crowded, we can... More

This spot is not hidden but it gets lost behind the crap hole McDonalds on the road. Do try to find it though, it is very good quality mexican food at a great price. My favorite is the torta with carne asada.

Just happened on this restaurant on our way to Truckee. We were hungry and did not want to eat fast food. Blindly chose this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised how good the burritos were. Great place for lunch.

Come on, can we get real here. First, the good. They have Pacifico on tap. So good!!! The chips and salsa were good. Now to our meals. Lets start with the nachos our kids ordered. They looked like someone grated cheese on the chips, added sour cream and cheap guacomole and then put it in the microwave. They were TERRIBLE.... More

great little taqueria frequented by locals. If you arrive at quittin' time you might have to fight for a table, but it's worth it for a cold cerveza and a carnitas plate. If they have the huaraches special, do not miss it! Otherwise, it's all good. The chili relleno burrito is excellent as well.

We found ourselves in Auburn at lunch time so headed right for El Portal on New Years eve day. This place has been our go-to for Mexican food for a while now and anytime we are in the area we stop by. It is not a gourmet, world class restaurant but is just a very good Taqueria that has good... If you want authentic, delicious Mexican food, this is the place. Luis is a fabulous cook and Jose uses family recipes. Not to be missed and no other Mexican restaurant in the Auburn area compares.

I love this place, it's sit down fast food. The food is always great and the staff is friendly and efficient. The street tacos are very good as are any of their burritos. Portions are big, I only get through a third of their burritos. Very authentic!
