A great Mexican meal.

We have been going to El Portal for years. The food is always good and so is the service. I really enjoy their chicken enchiladas and their chips and salsa. We have never had a meal there that we did not enjoy and they have some good beer too.

We were greeted with a smile but as we waited for our orders to arrive, I couldn't help but notice the place needed a good cleaning. The blinds looked dirty and the tile floor had lots of broken chips that had been left by people and not cleaned up. I found the place lacking in atmosphere but then we didn't... More

Stopped here on our way to the north shore of Tahoe. What a find! So much better than fast food. The burritos were huge. My roasted pork was nice and crispy, perfectly seasoned and the tortilla was grilled--definitely a cut above many of the other taquerias I've been to. The service was attentive and the portions so large that we... More

Very well prepared mexican food. Fresh, flavorful and appropriately priced. I really enjoyed my order of flautas as much as i delighted over my super taco. I just wish they had jamica the day we ate there as that would have rounded out the meal nicely.

this place is always packed, for a good reason, the food is awesome. the free salsa & chips are among the best. food is always excellent, for a very reasonable price. my favorite item is the chili verde burrito, but the carnitas torta is very good also.

My advice (if you're hungry): Get the Three-Item Combination Plate ($10.50) and make sure at least ONE of the items is a "Sope". I always order a "Carnitas Sope," a "Taco de Lengua," and another Taco with Carnitas or Al Pastor…..combined with the rice and beans and the free chips/salsa --- I always leave this place in a food coma.... We love El Portal -- sometimes even get there once a week. It's the perfect restaurant for a quick, delicious meal with draft beer. Our favorite dishes include the carnitas plate, the carnitas tostada, fish tacos, and occasionally the chile rellenos. Our kids swear by the burritos. Our golf buddies like it too. And even though occasionally crowded, we can... More

This spot is not hidden but it gets lost behind the crap hole McDonalds on the road. Do try to find it though, it is very good quality mexican food at a great price. My favorite is the torta with carne asada.

Just happened on this restaurant on our way to Truckee. We were hungry and did not want to eat fast food. Blindly chose this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised how good the burritos were. Great place for lunch.

Come on, can we get real here. First, the good. They have Pacifico on tap. So good!!! The chips and salsa were good. Now to our meals. Lets start with the nachos our kids ordered. They looked like someone grated cheese on the chips, added sour cream and cheap guacomole and then put it in the microwave. They were TERRIBLE.... More
