Casual, authentic Mexican food. Great fresh ships and salsa. Great fresh buttered flour tortillas for my great (fried) fish tacos. They also have non-fried fish option. I look forward to returning and trying something else.

We go here quite often, and it's definitely the best Mexican food in the area. I've tried them all, and Maria Elena's is by far the best. We have dinner here a couple times a month. It's also a good place for lunch during the week, but that can be a little tricky. Not surprisingly, it is a very popular... More

I was jonsing some good Mexican, so my colleague and stopped by here. He had been the restaurant before but never stopped by. We sat on the outside patio, it was a great night and enjoyed the chips and salsa. I had the fish tacos which were great. Guac was spot on, his steak looked excellent. I can't wait to... More

I eat here regularly. Weekday lunches are packed so I go on the weekends when it's not crowded. I love everything I've had on the menu but I always come back to the fish tacos and the frijoles. My friend, who is from Mexico swears by the chilaquiles and my mom loves the enchiladas. The hot dishes are always served... More

If you want and need GREAT Mexican food you need to go to Maria Elena's. I have been eating here since the early 80's and have never had a bad dish!! Great place for lunch or dinner, and a great menu, lots of items to chose from.

Great Mexican food. Worth a stop. Tried the vegetarian tamale and would not reorder it. The spinach enchiladas were good though. Our server was friendly and funny. A true Alviso experience.

We recently visited Maria Elena's for the second time. It does not look like much from the outside, but it certainly reminded us of numerous restaurants that we had seen in the Puerto Vallarta area of Mexico. The food is quite authentic compared to those places. We sampled various burritos and enchiladas, all of which were very tasty. The place... More

I went to this restaurant during a business trip. The restaurant is not much to look at, and I actually never made it inside as we ate within the patio area. We arrived at 11:45 for lunch and were seated after a short wait. By noon, there was a crowd outside the restaurant waiting to get in. I could not... More

In the little city of Alviso, CA there is a Mexican restaurant called Maria Elena's. It is one of the best and truly authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. The decor needs work, but the food is good.

Ambience is great! Not one of the large chains like Chevys. Salsa is flavorful. Shrimp fajita with corn tortillas was awesome. Guacamole & the sauteed veggies were perfect. The quanitness of the little bayside town of Alviso adds to the overall charm of this little restaurant. Lines are very long at lunchtime specially on weekdays!
