Usually fairly crowded and a fun atmosphere. The food (mostly tapa or small-plate style) is very good. However, it's easy to run up a big tab if you are hungry. Good place for a drink and a snack. For dinner, bring plenty of money.

We have eaten at Fonda's many times. The food is both traditional and innovative Mexican and is very good. The bar is full and they have many signature cocktails, wine and beer. The alcoholic dessert drinks are especially good. The only thing is the food is expensive and the portions are small. We usually have eaten dinner earlier and go... More

I've been to Fonda's many times, and have never been disappointed. I love it that we can go there after most other local restaurants are closed, and get absolutely wonderful food. When I've asked to be seated in a quieter area, they always accommodate us. The drinks are a bit pricy, but the food itself is well-priced. The tacos are... More

Excellent cocktail, best bartenders in the East Bay, very good Latin American dishes. Sometimes the food is a bit pricey, but always a good time.

great location, great neighborhood feel, service has been friendlier, house margarita used to have better tequila and always used cointreau, now you have to pay for those benefits

Didn't really enjoy the noisey young crowd. Also it is very crowded both inside and out. It was very difficult to carry on a normal conversation due to the nosise level.

We were unaware that we were dining on Taco Tuesday, until we were seated. It was a nice surprise as tacos were $2.50 to $3 each and there were also $5 dollar Mojitos. Our Tacos included the Duck with guacomole and arbol salsa (absolutely delicious) Fish with Coriander aioli and radish slaw, and something new to us, Pooc Chuc Taco... More

Everything we ordered was delicious and interesting--tuna tartare, golden and red beet salad, duck and fish tacos, rack of lamb, warm chocolate cake. Tip: get there early or there may be a wait

Fonda has a good drinks list, and some interesting non-alcoholic drinks as well. The tapas are latin-inflected. Service is friendly. I have seen people with children here, but prefer to go for an adult evening, myself. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food -- the fish has been very fresh, and the vegetables are fantastic. Good dishes... More

Cute place with an upstairs and downstairs. Sit upstairs if you want to be able to have a conversation with your dinner guests. Downstairs is the open kitchen and bar area, hard surfaces make for a loud room. Staff is efficient and friendly. Drinks are good. Excellent margarita. The food should not be ordered all at once. Pace what you want... More
