Mediterranean gem off the beaten path

As downtown Alameda has become more busy around the theater, Asena has become more isolated. But the place is worth the extra couple of blocks. Great homemade pizza, pastas, appetizers, and entrees. Solid wine list, reasonably priced. Don't miss this if you are in the area

Had dinner last night at Asena and as always enjoyed our meal. My only comment would be the lobster ravioli was more salmon than lobster so a little disappointing. Our daughter is gluten intolerant and they always are able to provide wonderful alternatives I.e. shrimp with risotto instead of pasta, excellent. Decaf cappuccinos to finish, excellent coffee.

my golfing buddies; 7, came to Asena restaurant in Alameda, Ca. For dinner. Very nice Mediterranean quality faire. Each of us enjoyed our meal and experience very much. I started with a Cesar salad, a nice lamb dish in a pomegranate sauce, then finished with a creme brûlée. Others had steak, scollops, or a vegetarian dish. Cocktails preceded our dinner.... More

Asena consistently has a wonderful menu and great specials. On my latest visit I had veal ravioli that were possibly the best I have ever had. The appetizer ih humus and fried linguicia was served with triangles if pita bread. The wine list always compliments the food. The host and wait staff are friendly and more than competent. Every meal... More

Mustaffa and his staff have catered both of our sons' rehearsal dinners. The food, the service, the working relationship...absolutely everything about this place is phenomenal. The first gig was in Alameda but son #2 got married in Monterey and Asena trucked down the coast and did an equally stellar job far from home base. In both cases, the guests were... More

Asena Restaurant has been around for some time now and I have never been disappointed. It is a culinary treasure of eclectic tastes and fusion cuisine from Turkey, Italy and the Mediterranean. The staff is understanding and accommodating of food allergies. Yes, it can be noisy but this is the best restaurant in Alameda. The host is gracious and extends... More

What a wonderful culinary treasure in the city of Alameda . . . Our Dinner group consisted of 6 people and everyone enjoyed everything that we ordered , including a Salmon Dish and a Cured Meat Dish . . . the salads were fresh as well as unique. The coffee was excellent (seemed like Turkish coffee to me) and the... More

Asena is a small, cordial restaurant serving Italian cuisine. The food is outstanding, service is even better. Only downside is that it is small and noisy in the evening, tables are crowded together. But the hospitality and quality of the food overcomes this. Yes, a real Alameda treasure.

I dine here quite frequently and am never disappointed. Lunch is always fantastic and very affordable for the quality of food you receive. Dinner is also wonderful. I have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries here and always receive outstanding service, delicious food, and a great overall experience. I definitely come back for their mushroom ravioli and any lamb dish they might... More

We arrived at Oakland airport at 4:40pm and were seated at Asena Restaurant in Alemeda by 5pm. We sat outside amongst the flowers and had a glass of wine before our entrees arrived. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. My swordfish was perfectly prepared. My wife had the pork medallions with roasted fruit chutney. Also superb. My sons both... More
