very tasty, a little quirky, great atmosphere, cordial staff

It's an unusual menu with an interesting and in places adventurous mix of Mediterranean and Californian and Turkish. Run with élan and style with a well-trained staff, you feel like you're in a classy restaurant though the surroundings are fairly informal. Prices are good, food is great, there is a... read more

Run with élan and style with a well-trained staff, you feel like you're in a classy restaurant though the surroundings are fairly informal. Prices are good, food is great, there is a bar and a well-selected wine list. I enjoy the feeling... More

Asena has a small but wonderful menu, with lovely light sauces and fantastic lamb dishes. The owners are delightful and very community-minded as well.

We go here regularly; We went there last saturday for dinner; we had reservations and were seated promptly; service was excellent; We both ordered the specials and hanger steak was amazing. We always order their Garlic on curry bread appetizer and that's to die for if you are a garlic lover! Their wine list is really good and the price... More

Marilyn and I have been to Asena before and always enjoyed both service and food. This visit seemed special. It was Saturday at 6pm and we called to see if we could get 3 people in for dinner. The owner took care of our request even though totally booked. We parked in the lot across the street (parking is an... More

As downtown Alameda has become more busy around the theater, Asena has become more isolated. But the place is worth the extra couple of blocks. Great homemade pizza, pastas, appetizers, and entrees. Solid wine list, reasonably priced. Don't miss this if you are in the area

Had dinner last night at Asena and as always enjoyed our meal. My only comment would be the lobster ravioli was more salmon than lobster so a little disappointing. Our daughter is gluten intolerant and they always are able to provide wonderful alternatives I.e. shrimp with risotto instead of pasta, excellent. Decaf cappuccinos to finish, excellent coffee.

my golfing buddies; 7, came to Asena restaurant in Alameda, Ca. For dinner. Very nice Mediterranean quality faire. Each of us enjoyed our meal and experience very much. I started with a Cesar salad, a nice lamb dish in a pomegranate sauce, then finished with a creme brûlée. Others had steak, scollops, or a vegetarian dish. Cocktails preceded our dinner.... More

Asena consistently has a wonderful menu and great specials. On my latest visit I had veal ravioli that were possibly the best I have ever had. The appetizer ih humus and fried linguicia was served with triangles if pita bread. The wine list always compliments the food. The host and wait staff are friendly and more than competent. Every meal... More

Mustaffa and his staff have catered both of our sons' rehearsal dinners. The food, the service, the working relationship...absolutely everything about this place is phenomenal. The first gig was in Alameda but son #2 got married in Monterey and Asena trucked down the coast and did an equally stellar job far from home base. In both cases, the guests were... More
