You definitely need to be in the mood for heavy, fill your gut, you gotta roll out the restaurant type of food if you come here for dinner. It's everything German food is supposed to be so in that regard it's good. Most everything is served with sauerkraut and covered in gravy. They do have a vegetarian section of the... More

We've loved this place for years, but it's doubly awesome now during the World Cup. The menu has something for everyone, including several vegetarian and gluten-free items than make it work well for a diners with dietary restrictions. Of course there's plenty of pretzels and sausage too! And did I mention beer? BEER! lots of great German beers including a... More

The food is really good. That's the bottom line. A wide selection of German beer -- not so easy to find around here -- with all the tradition German menu selections...the wursts, bratens and all that, along with good spatzel. Live music on the weekends can make it hard to carry on a conversation at times. but it contributes to... More

This restaurant is in a neighborhood half a block from Park Street so that generally parking can be found within a block or two. In front is the beer garden which is popular. The bar is in the first room as is a limited dining area. In back is a large dining area which can accommodate larger parties. Speisekammer has... More

We've been wanting to try Speisekammer for awhile and now glad we did. They have a nice selection of items on their menu and offer a full bar. We enjoyed the little Nurenberg sausages appetizer and half orders of sauerbraten. The sauerkraut served with the sausages was mild with only a hint of carroway seed. The tritip was marinated beautifully... More

We were looking for a decent restaurant in Alameda and wanted something else than American food. So the Speisekammer was an outcomming for us. Parking is kinda difficult around here, but they have a few parking places next to the restaurant. The staff is very friendly, but they can't speak German. The owner is German and he thought his cooks... More

Their food is delicious. It can be noisy at times, so dine early and ask for a table in the back room.

I've been to Speissekammer a number of times over the last four years and the food is consistently delicious and authentic. It's also a great spot to catch a soccer game during the World Cup or Euro Cup. Service can be pretty slow, but it's never surly.

My last visit was this year. I go to this restaurant about once a month. Parking is available and they have a nice variety of dishes. The bar has a large selection of cocktails and beer. They often have live music. Wait staff is friendly and accommodating. The food is available in half portions at a lower cost.

This is an American interpretation of a German bierhaus. The food ranges from very good to superb (try the cheesy spaetzle) and the beer is all you would expect. The service is usually quite good -- on one occasion when they were very crowded we were a bit neglected.
