Close to Germany as It Gets

Been to a lot of German restaurants, and usually they are expensive and have great flaws. Spiesekammer is a little pricey, but food I'd really good, meats, sauerkraut, rot kraut, all really good. Some of the sausages, like the Nuernburger were exceptional in fact. The sweet and hot mustards also... read more

Speis is an Alameda destination spot! It has a great big outdoor patio and two dining areas. It's a great place to drink...but just an ok place to eat. They have great booze selection and decent bartenders, but the food is hit-or-miss and it's a bit on the pricy side for what you get. It's the best place in town... More

We went for a late lunch (around 1:30) and sat outside. Very few people there at that time. First off, the food was very good and the Bitburger draft and dunkel we got were also very good. The only downside was that we got quite lonely as we did not see our sever that often. I recommend sitting inside (which... More

As welcoming as the staff and our hostess were, the general experience today unfortunately left us all crossing this restaurant off our list of places to go. The vegetarian omelette came with potatoes that had bacon in it. The jagersnitzel plate was a bit cool making the sauce on the thick custardy-side, and the eggs benedict, which my mom ordered,... Great sausages, schnitzel and beers. The grapefruit beer was very refreshing on a hot afternoon. Great place for a beer, a bite, or both.

Being gluten sensitive we have been wanting to try this restaurant since it appeared in one of our GF apps. We each had the bratwurst with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. The food was excellent and came out hot. The yellow mustard did catch me by surprise as it was spicy hot! But a good horseradish buzz isn't so bad once... More

With few German restaurants in the Bay Area, we are always interested in trying any local ones we hear of. The word from family members was that it wasn't very good, yet we couldn't resist the urge to see for ourselves. Arriving on a weeknight, we were seated right away. The bar was busy and it appeared that many customers... More

Stopped in for lunch with kids and German grandparents. All loved it. Great atmosphere, friendly service, good food. Strudel for dessert. All good!

Had a large group at Speisekammer last night without a hitch. Lots of activity and it was a busy night in the restaurant and all was well. All orders correct and all of the dinners were served within moments of each other and everything was cooked to perfection. I often dine out with a crowd and orders can easily get... More

German food is not my favorite, but this was nice after a long day. Quick service, pleasant staff and a homey atmosphere.
