Best German restaurant in the bay area

This place, in terms of food, is as close to Germany as one can get in the bay area. Came here multiple times since we've known about it. Sausage was good. Schnitzel was good. potato pancake was good. Cabbage rolls are excellent. Even the fries are good, with their four different aioli and... read more

The menu is kind of limited but everything is good. We go a couple times a year and like it. The service is fine and it looks like I envision a German restaurant should. If you like Lager beer they have plenty to choose from.Parking can be tough unless you don't mind walking a couple blocks.

Der Sourbraten was as I remembered it from what we used to love --- in Breslau and later in Suid Daitschland!

Setting: In Alameda close enough to the Main Street shopping area, where Parking is a challenge. Decor emulates a Bavarian restaurant with some buck heads on the wall. German feeling for Americans far away from Germany. Food: Very nice beer selection, which includes Kölsch and weissbier. Sausages are so-so. spätzle are pretty good. Schnitzel Ok-ish. I would not necessarily return.

Lived there for a few months before we ate here. Loved it! Great food, great atmosphere. Beer is yummo. Thanks!

As long as we've lived in Alameda we've enjoyed Speisekammer for both dinner and lunch. The variety of food offered fits out need even though some members have serious food allergies. The meat lovers and those who much prefer vegetables are happy with the wide choices. Our only problem is that our gradeschool-aged boy finds the service way to slow;... More

Great food, ambiance and impressive selection of beer. They also have a fun list of mixed drinks to try. The menu has a variety of unique selections and you can choose to go the appetizer route, or a full meal or a half portion of spaezle with bacon, which is my favorite.Their Octoberfest celebration was great fun, even for my... Whenever we craved for German cuisines, we'd come here for a feast, and my student's German mom would certainly agree. I loved their schnitzel whether it's full plate or a sandwiches. (Of course, there is no comparison with the value and size with the Schnitzelwirt on Neubaugasse 52 in Wien. But then, Schnitzelwirt is at the other side of world.... More

I have never been to a German restaurant before and had no idea what to expect. They had a large patio area in front of the restaurant. It would have been great to eat outside, but it was a little too chilly. The inside is quite charming. Reminded me of a mountain chalet. We ordered the cheese and fruit tray... More
