Description: Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern. The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

We found all of the food highly original in prepation and taste. Blended fairly traditional American cooking with different ways of preparation and presentation. We both had well prepared seafood, with a varied range of side dishes. Wine by the glass was good and reasonably priced. We ate on the patio (nice warm evening) - a bit of traffic noise... More

First of all, I want to say the food was very good. Not great, but very good. The service on the other hand was the worst I have ever received. I have never experienced anything so strange before and in hindsight I wish that I had spent my money elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. What a... More

Blue Duck Tavern is one of the very best restaurant in Washington. The food is excellent and the surroundings are a treat with nice alcove areas to break up the space. It is on the expensve side but it is good value compared to offerings of a similar level elsewhere. Service is wonderful and not at all stuffy which can... More

This is a lovely restaurant with a unique open kitchen. The service was slow but the food was excellent.

Birthday dinner arranged by spouse. Welcomed by the executive chef as we walked in from the lobby. Seated at a table next to the kitchen, and enjoyed the show. Ordered spring pea soup, the sturgeon rillette, duck and rabbit, blue cheese polenta and a sorbet dessert. Kitchen comped a salad, a side and home baked sugar cookies. All in all,... More

This is one of those restaurants that is not just great, it is special. The food is excellent and, yes, special: the theme of the restaurant is to use local ingredients that are in season so the menu is constantly changing and the dishes available are often very innovative. Portions are large and the recommend sharing the side dishes --... More

Blue Duck Tavern is a very popular restaurant in DC, so you need to call early for a reservation. The food is very good, and not inexpensive. The menu is dictated by the seasons and local growing patterns, so it is creative, but can be a bit limited if you are not a fan of winter root vegetables, for instance.... More

I had heard so many wonderful things about this place, and we were very eager to try it. The facilities are very modern and lovely. You see the kitchen as soon as you walk into the door. There was a confusion about my reservation even after they had called to confirm and I had corrected the mistake. We had a... More

This place was just excellent. The dishes were creative and well thought out from a winter soup to the apple pie a la mode. The food is served family style which allowed us to order several starters and only one entrée and have enough food to keep two people full. Some of the highlights on the menu were a bone... More

My fiance and I were looking for somewhere to eat and decided to stop by the Blue Duck Tavern in the hopes that they might have an open table. Unfortunately, we were out of luck, but the hostess was very gracious and polite and offered two options - to eat in the lounge area or to go back at 9:45pm... More
