A friend of mine and I found this Malaysia Kopitiam by accident when the Korean restaurant around the corner was closed. THIS PLACE IS GREAT! Now, you have to get over the smell when you first get in; it does have an odor that smells like it was recently flooded, but, really, it doesn't matter because it's the food here... More

We had a great meal here, having sought out a good authentic Asian restaurant to provide a wee alternative fix. Kopitiam delivered. It was a quiet Weds night so the service was good and the food was superb. Roti Canai was just as I remembered it as a breakfast staple whilst backpacking in Malaysia and the Laksa was excellent and... More

Closest to Malaysian dishes anywhere in DC. My favorites are the roti canai, nasi lemak and Assam laksa. Ais kacang will make a great dessert, topped off with a Teh Tarik. I will go out of my way to at least have one stop here every time I am in DC.

We stayed in a Dupont Circle hotel and decided to give this restaurant a try. I had the curry laksa and it was tasty. My partner had Nyonya Assam Sambal Shrimp and the portion was generous. I was happy to see shaved ice on the menu, thinking it was similar to Vietnamese ice. I was turned off discovering creamed corn... More

I have frequently traveled to SE Asia over the past two decades. These travels have introduced me to the delights of Malaysian and Indonesian cooking. Back home in the US, I look, without success for restaurants to sample these same delights. In spite of living in Chicago, I have not been able to find such a restaurant until I discovered... More

We had a great meal and received excellent service. It’s an attractive, well managed restaurant and convenient to the Metro. Highly recommended.

Having lived in Malaysia and usually love their food, I was looking forward to visiting Malaysia Kopitam. Unfortunately it did not live up to any expectations. The sate was very ordinary and the beef Rendang was dry. There is now way this was slow-cooked, it was basically just a few slices of beef with some coconut sauce over. The restaurant... More

We ordered a variety of foods and shared. All of it was tasty and hot. Service was ok at best. Clearing used plates, etc was only when we requested.

It is not an inviting atmosphere -- it is not tidy, neat, clean... odd smell when we entered. The food was sub-par (Laksa) -- a little bland, too big of chunks for a soup. Short walk to N. Farr. metro station.

We had a feast celebrating the year of the horse at Malaysia Kopitam last night, which happened to be the Chinese new year. We started the yusheng or “prosperity toss”, a salad consisting of strips of smoked salmon mixed with shredded crispy vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments. This salad is popular among Malaysia’s ethnic Chinese community, especially... More
