Had dinner on a Friday evening around 630p. Did not have a reservation and we were seated right away in the JFK proposal booth. It did get more crowded as the evening got later. Plenty of outdoor seating as well.

Hit this cozy joint on a Friday night and found great steaks, shepherd's pie, good drinks, decadent bread pudding. Service was spotty but the place was packed. Sat in the Madeline Albright booth. Apparently she still comes in (she's now a professor at nearby Georgetown) regularly and has the same thing: one of the famous Martin's burgers. I really loved... More

Took an out-of-town friend here for lunch, and sat in the booth where JFK proposed to Jackie. How cool! I had called ahead and requested this booth to surprise my guest, and the restaurant was very accommodating in giving it to me. Other booths also have plaques, commemorating famous visitors. Along with the history, the atmosphere is quaint and charming.... More

A little piece of history on the corner, caught our eye because it was so cute looking. We had to go in and found old fashioned service to match and a whole heap of history. The one I remember is that the Kennedy's were engaged there. There is a Nixon booth and lots of Baseball trivia. We really enjoyed this... More

My hub and I loved it! We both ordered from the comfort menu - delicious. We dined al fresco but took a tour of the inside: JFK, LBJ, Nixon, and Mickey Mantle booths; also, the booth where JFK and Jackie sat when they went to lunch after his proposal. Wonderful, old bar - great atmosphere. We did not order but... More

It's a couple blocks off M St. in plain sight, but Martin's Tavern is a locals place only the locals are national figures. Think Mr. Chow's of Beverly Hills comes to Washington without the fancy fare. This is a fourth generation family Irish pub with great food and service and tons of history. JFK proposed to Jackie in Booth 3... More

Excellent food, warm service and tons of history in this great Georgetown tavern. For history there's the obvious booths named for the people who frequented them before rising to historic fame (JFK, Nixon, LBJ, etc.), but there's also the local history of being in an established neihborhood for decades. The lambchops with mint jelly are fantastic as is the shephards... More

There seems to have been a lot of recent criticism about Martin's Tavern that we didn't think was perhaps a fair ...... bearing in mind that the attitude of the diners can go a long way as to how cooperative the restaurant staff are. The table allocated was not going to work for our group - we wanted a quieter... More
