Stumbled upon Circle Bistro a few years back as a place to eat prior to taking in the DC Revels holiday show at GWU's Lisner Auditorium and it has become part of the tradition. As a destination to dine, this is one. The executive chef, Michael Cassidy, always has a creative menu of rich flavors that reflects the season. That... More

My son and I stopped in for breakfast while visiting from the midwest. I came specifically for the pineapple-mango smoothy (pineapple, mango, coconut, vanilla kefir) and was not disappointed with the taste! Very good, just overpriced (8 oz for $9-it was priced as $8 on the menu, but I was charged $9 which I didn't catch until after I had... More

Great food, seasonal ingredients. Waiter was wonderful, though his assistant needed training. Waiter accepted this criticism and thanked us for letting him know. Acoustics made the surrounding chatter quite loud, which was too bad because the atmosphere was otherwise intimate. Part of the blame, however, lies with rude patrons who clearly don't know how to behave in a nice restaurant.

Met for dinner with out of town relatives. The strip steak was competent, and they accommodated a substitution for one of our group in lieu of the creamed spinach. The seared scallops were excellent. The cheese platter had some really nice selections for appetizers but the accompanying raisin bread was only ok. The wines were drinkable, both the pinot gris... More

Set low within One Washington Circle hotel, this is somewhat of a hide-away. We had wine and bar snacks. The cheese platter was generous and stood apart from the small serving of meatballs. Wine selection by the glass was okay, but overall a fairly pricey experience for a short hangout. Service was suitably attentive.

The restaurant did a wonderful job of dealing with our large dinner party. The food was good, I would even say sophisticated. The service was attentive and timely. However, I have no idea why it is called a bistro. The champagne bottles in slings in window boxes as décor must have been an alluding to their wine which tasted like... More

My server suggested the burger and it was delicious. I had it with a glass of wine and could not finish the fries, and did not make it to dessert. The space was warm, but it was loud.

This really was a game of two halves. We had several drinks in the bar and the service from Jane was second to none. She was originally from Huntingdon, Cambs, but had been over here for a long long time. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was charming and attentive throughout. Turning now to the restaurant. Everything... More

Our waiter was friendly, but it took more than 30 mins to get our meal. The food was ok, but not great. I expected more because the hotel touted its "Best Restaurants" mention in the Washingtonian Magazine - and since the entrees were more than $20. The ambiance was a bit dreary -- perhaps because the restaurant is partially underground... More
