Surprisingly good Mexican for DC!

After getting drinks on U street we decided to see if there was any decent Mexican food in the area. Visiting from Texas our standards are high. We found Alero near-by and gave it a shot. I went to this restaurant with my husband and teenage daughter during a recent visit to DC. One of the front desk staff at our hotel recommended it. First of all the music was so loud it was hard to hear conversation and I believe it contributed to a problem with the service. I ordered a salad with chicken. When... More

Alero's was one of my favorite restaurants, until last night. Last night was the most embarrassing and the worst customer service experience for my friends and I. I came to join a group of six of my other friends, and it was clear the server was overwhelmed (or maybe new). There was confusion with the bill, in which we paid... More

This review is specific to the Dupont Circle location. We travel extensively in Central America and are usually disappointed when we try places like this, but Alero did not disappoint. We were lured by the Happy Hour specials, but the ceviche and fried plantains were excellent. We also enjoyed the Tres Chiles Calamari. During HH, Mexican beer (at Dupont location)... More

This place gets pretty busy and loud. If you have a big party make sure to get there early. There is a margarita on the menu that has amaretto, avoid it. It is very sweet and hard to drink a lot of. You cannot go wrong with getting the standard margarita. Staff is very friendly and helpful .

Interesting decor and tasty margaritas. However, a traditional Mexican combination platter was just average. At least the friendly service would make this a nice place for a drink and some chips.

WOW! $19.95 huge weekend brunch menu or try to select only one item from their regular menu. Taste extravaganza and service is familial and flexible - whatever you want basically. I had the lentil soup, amazing with fresh cilantro, cheese and onions on the side and a delicious salad (no taco bowl) with shrimp. Our hungry 21 year old son... More

My friend's husband is a Mexico City native... he loves this place. Need I say more? Note that the "chiles rellenos" are more like a spicy version of stuffed bell peppers, tho the pepper is a large poblano. Guac is great, as are the traditional Mexican items, especially the mole poblano!

Cold Pacifico, decent guacamole and a terribly tasty seafood burrito means I'll be back. The service was not only efficient but very friendly. The place was busy, but not overly so last Friday night. You have a lot of choices in this area but if Mexican is on your list this should be your choice.

I visited here recently and I was craving Mexican food AND a margarita and I found this little gem not too far from my hotel! I really liked it and was surprised as I'm from Texas and there is no Mexican food like Tex-Mex so I'm really particular on my mexican food and margaritas but I thoroughly enjoyed it and... More
