I'll couch this review by stating that I have never eaten Ethiopian food before, so I am not a reliable source for how authentic Meskerem's food was. I can say, however, that I went to Meskerem looking for a new dining experience, and I came away with exactly that. The menu provided descriptions of the various forms of preparation, which... More

Haven't been to Meskerem for something like 15 years. So went back the other day with the incentive of a groupon and a friend who is into Ethiopian food. The place has not changed much, probably no change at all. Still a relatively attractive restaurant with better decor than most of the other newer Ethiopian restaurants (this was one of... More

This place isn't modern. It's not uber artistic. It's not artificial. It's classic Ethiopian, solid good food. I was impressed to find a bottle of wine on the menu for not a lot more than store price. For 2 people we got the large shared platter, with tomato salads each which was more than enough food. We didn't quite finish... More

This was our first experience eating at an Ethiopian restaurant. Our friends, who are old pros, ordered for us. It was wonderful and we will be back there next time we are in DC.

We wanted to take our kids out for Ethiopian food and give them a good first experience. This was right on target. The menu has a diverse selection and everything is cooked to perfection. The only reason, I'm not giving a perfect score is that the service was a little disorganized, but it was a crowded Monday night and they... More

My husband and I wanted to try some Ethiopian food and choose this restaurant because it seemed reasonably priced and offered a sample plate. The restaurant is small but served very good food. We would definitely recommend this as a place to try.

Visited as a group of 3 and got the sampler plate. I'd recommend that as a good introduction to the cuisine as it has a wide range of food (though from my perspective the texture was pretty much all the same - mushy.) I'm not familiar with Ethiopian food but as best I can tell it was very well prepared.... More

The meal here was good. If you like Ethiopian food, it will hit the spot. Prices were reasonable. Service was prompt and pleasant. Definitely a good find in DC.

This was my second time trying Ethiopian food. I didn't love it the first time, but I wanted to give it another chance. I don't think I want to try it again. However, friends that I was with did enjoy their meals, so if you're a fan of Ethiopian dishes, do give the place a try and see for yourself.... More

The food is excellent (I think so but I'm also not a frequent Ethiopian food eater) but what makes it extra fun is the cool seating on the second floor. Definitely ask to be seated up there because you have little poofs with a short table between you. It's a very fun way to eat and the service is great.... More
