I come to DC at least once a year and for the last 4-5 years have made a point to visit Meskerem due to the food, decor and location within Adams Morgan. This time, I wanted my girlfriend to experience Ethiopian cuisine for the first time. She generally enjoyed it. I was disappointed, compared to previous visits. The sambussas (samosas... More

Both my husband and I maintain that this is the best Ethiopian restaurant in DC located in Adams Morgan. It's not one of the fanciest restaurants but serves its purpose well if you are planning to have a cozy night out with your friends and have delicious food. Their Veggie menu also provides decent options. The only reason I gave... More

We got there early which was good, there was a queue of people waiting for a seat just after we arrived. The food was excellent, a wide variety of flavours and textures but all complimentary. Hadn't eaten Ethiopian before so this was an excellent intro. Service was very friendly, not a great deal of enthusiasm but definitely enough to make... More

Visited Meskerem on our trip to DC, with my brother and his kids. It was the first time the kids were trying Ethiopian food. The best part about Ethiopian is that vegetarian food is as good as the meet dishes. The restaurant was simple, but hospitable. The service was quick, and good. The food was so amazing, that we repeated... More

We enjoyed the platter for two that provided several kinds of meats for our bread. The waitress we had was very sweet and attentive.

My girlfriend and I had dinner in Adams Morgan last weekend and we were split between Asian and trying something new, Ethiopian. We decided to go light on the Asian and save some room for Ethiopian later that night. The Meskerem seated us around 9 or 930 and we shared a Meskerem Messob platter but for one person, even though... More

I grew up in DC, and used to go get the best Ethiopian food in Adams Morgan. I returned, 14 years after my last Ethiopian meal and went to Meskerem...was sure that was the restaurant, and it's the one everyone raves about online. it was not good. I've eaten Ethiopian in NYC, London, Amsterdam, Oslo - everywhere else, it's better... More

I live in PA and we have Ethiopian restaurants in Philly, but I drive three hours to dine at Meskerem. Enough said!

We decided to try Ethiopian food for the first time at Mekerem, and it was a good meal. We're not able to compare it to any other Ethiopian restaurants, but it was tasty and provided the change of pace we were looking for. We ordered the combo platter of several meat and vegetarian dishes, and liked all but one of... More

First time we have tried Ethiopian food. We met up with some local friends who knew the restaurant. Place feels like a bit of an institution, very well established. Diners sit on low stools and share from a large plate. Food is eaten with the hands using bits of pancake. The food is delicious. Our friends drank the honey wine... More
