More German than Germany!

More German than Germany! I have often noticed that expatriates can become to embody more of a culture than their motherland itself—the Japanese in Hawaii, the Canadians in Victoria British Columbia and now this experience comes to mind. More German than Germany! I have often noticed that expatriates can become to embody more of a culture than their motherland itself—the Japanese in Hawaii, the Canadians in Victoria British Columbia and now this experience comes to mind. The recipes here are more German that anything I had in Germany, and are clearly reflective of a time and place—someone’s grandmothers... More

Great food, large portions, sensible pricing, courteous/efficient service and a delightful pianist sum up this experience! A group of us were in DC for the weekend and found this gem on restaurant.com. Having used the site in prior trips to major cities, we have found that sometimes you do not get what you expect. Well I must be honest and... More

we referred to this gem by the concierge at the woman's art museum. Beautiful, European flare as well as a quaint store with German and European groceries. Varied menu in all price ranges. Herring was delicious and we had goulash which was extremely tender only a fork was needed. And a venison burger, sone red cabbage and asst bread and... More

Just around the corner from our hotel - a cosy café style restaurant with huge servings of schnitzel etc. I enjoyed a super fish meal. There is also a deli/store before you enter the actual restaurant and we were able to purchase some lovely fruit as well as some decadent baked tummies for a treat. They also have a good... More

We visited tonight, after reading the reviews on trip advisor, and everything that everyone has put is right. You would think from the outside it's just a shop but go inside and you will fine a lovely restaurant. Where service and food is great, and there is even a lady playing the accordion, all for a very reasonable price, you... More

A great little restaurant that will surprise you with the quality of the food and staff. On a recent business trip a colleague and I decided to try it and were really impressed with our experience from the moment we arrived until we left. I recommend it to anyone who wants good German food. If there again, I'll go back.... More

We turned a corner from our hotel and found this gem. In the front is a deli and take out with sandwiches. In the middle is a full bar. In the back is a restaurant. We came back for dinner and, because it was Sunday night, we were entertained by an accordian player from Austria with a very eclectic repitoire... More

I discovered this place while walking towards home after a day of wandering, on my way home to NE. It's tucked away between a bunch of high-rise office buildings and it was a pleasant surprise to see they had a decent selection of authentic German fare. If I was hungry, I probably would have bought way more than my stomach... More

At first we almost didn't go here for our night out since it looked like a bodega, but then I looked at the reviews that said you had to walk through the deli to get to the restaurant. It was worth it! My wife is German, so I wanted to go to a German place for our anniversary eve. It... More
