Tosca used to be one of the go-to places in DC for well prepared Italian. Now it's overindulgent in it's pretense, and terribly overpriced

Good food and fantastic service. All appetizers and mains were rated high by everyone. The wine list was fantastic, especially the Italian selection. Prices a little high, but matches quality.

I have been a customer since Tosca opened, but not so recently as I have relocated. While the food was very good, not exceptional, I was shocked from the moment I paid for a martini while at the bar waiting for my dinner companion. Th e tab for ONE martini, was $15 and change. With the tip $20! My grilled... More

Tosca is a lovely, lovely restaurant that serves amazing Italian food. We had dinner there before going to see a show at Ford's Theatre, and the pre-theatre menu was varied and helped to make this fancy restaurant (almost) affordable. Everything was top notch - from the bread served before the meal all the way down to the after dinner espresso.... More

Going back a year after our previous visit we were delighted to find the same great food quality, preparation and presentation, but service had slipped. The restaurant well passed the acid test of Italian restaurants in having the highest quality oil and Averna as a digestif, but the service had slipped. A runner brings the food from the kitchen and... More

This is a white-tablecloth first rate Italian restaurant, with Italian waiters. Wine list was excellent including some less common regional wines. Food was superb and the waiters knowledgeable. We had specialty dishes like Octopus, "Branzino" (Mediterranean sea bass) and others and all were prepared wonderfully. It was not overly expensive for what we had. Book ahead of time though, as... Six of us met to reminisce, and Tosca was the perfect place for this. The restaurant has just been redecorated, ending up a little less elegant than before and a little more crowded, but we could still talk comfortably among ourselves. Although seated promptly, the waiter didn't ask for cocktail orders for an unconscionably long time. After this, he performed... More

Fine Italian dining in Washington and Tosca are synonymous. Excellent fish dishes, pasta and resoto as well as a veal milanese that at one time was only served to certain priests. The dining room is quietly formal and the wait staff is wonderful

This restaurant serves the gold standard of Italian food in the US. As an Italian-American, first generation, I only know my mom's cooking and this is by far equal to her cooking. The pasta is house made and tender and toothy; the sauce is to die for, especially the wild boar (the rabbit, not so much). The entrees are cooked... More

Tosca is a beautiful and scrumptious Italian restaurant near the White House. Its decor is understated and it is quiet enough to have a conversation easily. The lobster salad was outstanding and we both love our delicious fruita de mare risotto. the service was pleasant, professional, and unobtrusive. The maitre d' came by our table to check on our dinner.... More
