Quaint and tasty

Went with my colleagues while in DC for work. I got the nazarde (spelled wrong) salad - like a Niçoise salad. Very fresh and tasty. Fresh bread with olive oil- delicious. My colleague got a burger and said it was one of the best she's ever had. Cute place, great service, great location.

This is not the best Italian restaurant in DC, but the four of us ate a huge meal for $123. In addition to a couple of drinks, we had appetizers (salumi & formaggi) bruschette, caesar and caprese salads) and main courses (taglietelle, tortellini). Everything was well cooked and well presented. Our waiter, Rafael, was very pleasant and attentive. Only complaint:... More

Sad lack of imagination in preparation of food which did not spark an appetite, and saddest of all - the tomatoes were pasty and tasteless

I went with a group of about 10 people. We had made a reservation for their upstairs, semi-private room which was great. The food arrived quickly and was very good. They were able to give each of us separate checks which was helpful.

We enjoyed our meal very much. The dinner started with some delicious bread. Cold watermelon soup was something I had not had before and it was a nice change to hot soup. My main course was a seafood and pasta combo and it was great. My husband had pork medallions served over sweet potato and he raved about how tender... More

La Tomate came highly recommended by friends. Perhaps it was an off night but we were a bit disappointed. We ordered two bottles of wine for our group, one red and one white. Nothing extravagant but not cheap either. When we asked to decant they red, they told us they don't have decanters. Not the end of the world. Then... More

For a small informal Italian restaurant, we found this very enjoyable. The food was excellent and we liked our server. We had a great table in a quiet corner (we were a party of 6) but I imagine it could otherwise be a little noisy. I would recommend this for an informal relaxed evening.

We celebrated a special occassion at La Tomate this week and were delighted with the quality of the food and the great service. We keep coming back here because the food is always fresh and is cooked the way Italians cook. The staff is welcoming and friendly and the prices affordable. This is not an Americanized Italian cuisine - it... More
