Cozy space with depictions of "the hunt" and empty prized bottles of wine line the walls, the clientele are mostly older overheard saying "I'm older than you, no I'm 81, no I'm 86" . It's amazing that the wait staff does not collide with each other, but artfully dance with trays of souffles and escargot. Lobster bisque was a bit... More

I travel to Washington sporadically, but, if possible, whenever I go, La Chaumiere is a key destination (5 blocks from Foggy Bottom Metro). Ambiance - wonderfully charming, cozy, old-school feel. Service - not that snooty stuff one fears at such an establishment. Our waitress Friday, August 22 was so personable and at happy ease with her job. Our dinner did... More

I had read a lot of review exposing the rude manners of the staff and the owner but I thought that it was exegerated... Well, it's not! I'm a very easy going person and I don't need recognition from an owner of a restaurant just because I ate in his facility. But should I feel rushed? Should the gratuitie be... More

We had a delicious dinner here during our visit to DC. La Chaumiere (show-me-air) is located on M Street, a lovely street to walk along in Georgetown. Seating is a bit cramped, but the food and service are excellent. We were received warmly when we entered--this is always such a nice way to start dinner. I had a delicious chilled... More

I might add that the 80 year old woman referenced here also happens to be a Catholic nun and was making this her last meal in the U.S. before heading off to Africa to build even more schools and libraries. In the 25 years I’ve lived in the D.C. area, I have eaten here on several occasions and enjoyed it... More

We had a very enjoyable early dinner on a Sunday recently. The place filled up fairly quickly with the pre-theater crowd as well as a number of birthday/anniversary celebrants. The ambience is agreeable but the tables are fairly close to one another and it is rather noisy when it filled up. But that seems like almost every other popular restaurant... More

If you want to experience genuine French food this is the restaurant. It is very nice located in Georgetown. The food is very good and the service has a touch of French service so be prepared. The wine list has a good French selection to reasonable prices.

After checking their website, arrived before 10:00 PM on a Friday night, hoping to order dinner based on their "10:30 PM closing". Told sorry, the kitchen had closed, despite other diners still being present.

Maybe it's the chocolate souffle. Maybe it's the close location to our house. Maybe it's the rustic interior which, while bordering on outdated, still comes across as charming. Maybe it's the ease of getting a table even on busy evenings. Maybe it's the chocolate souffle. Maybe it's the fact that we always get the same smiling waiter that welcomes us... More

Although we were there on a Friday evening, it was early by Georgetown standards. This allowed us the opportunity to have the undivided attention of our waitress, Marie-Re. It was a delightful experience and a wonderful meal. We were seated in the small front room and the crowds only started to arrive as we were leaving. It would have been... More
