Decided to do this 'classic' joint for a Saturday night date night. Food was pretty good, but just pretty good. My wife had oysters then tenderloin which was "Good. Very good." I had the lobster bisque which is done in the french style which I liked very much and the lamb that was prepared perfectly...but not very specially. The flour-less... More

Bustling and warm on a cold Saturday night. Great food and wine and very efficient service. Our first time here but it will not be the last. Thoroughly enjoyable.

We had dinner on Monday night before Verteran's Day and the place was packed. The food was excellent. The best French onion soup I ever had and the house special sausage were quite delicious. The whole meal was great from appetizers to the chocolate soufflé. Would definitely recommend this place. The place can be a bit noisy however.

I have been many times to this restaurant when I come to Washington. Try the cheese soufflé which is superb and the rest of the food is very good too. Service is fairly good. Wine a little pricey. I'll be back

Some restaurants have such a good buzz that the bar is set too high. This may be true of La Chaumiere. The downside. I called after making the reservation and told them it was my wife's birthday. There was not even a "happy birthday" when we arrived. I was not looking for any freebie, indeed my wife would have been... More

The restaurant itself was in a convienent location and charming to look at as it felt like we were in Europe. Granted we arrived late on a Friday night (~10:00) as our hotel called to get us a table which they happily granted. Once we arrived it was clear our waiter had no interest in us being there. We were... More

We knew we came to the right restaurant when the next table informed us they had been comming for 30 years. The menu contained a large selection of entres which all appealed to us. We chose the veal piccata and lamb chops whic were both great. The appetizers were equally inviting as we chose the baked oysters and onion soup.... More

The foie gras was out of this world. One of a kind. They have one of the best top French wine collection you could think of.

I have been told by people who should know that the place is authentically French. The food is certainly good. And so is service, you feel that they look after you in unintrusive way. We go there every time we are in Washington, D.C.

This is a simple French bistro with homey food, reasonably priced and a throw back to the 1960s. You can't find quenelles at many places. They are very hard to make. Sweet breads are a speciality as is the Thursday night cassollet. The waiters are among the best in the city and while the seating is tight the atmosphere is... More
