If you want to experience genuine French food this is the restaurant. It is very nice located in Georgetown. The food is very good and the service has a touch of French service so be prepared. The wine list has a good French selection to reasonable prices.

After checking their website, arrived before 10:00 PM on a Friday night, hoping to order dinner based on their "10:30 PM closing". Told sorry, the kitchen had closed, despite other diners still being present.

Maybe it's the chocolate souffle. Maybe it's the close location to our house. Maybe it's the rustic interior which, while bordering on outdated, still comes across as charming. Maybe it's the ease of getting a table even on busy evenings. Maybe it's the chocolate souffle. Maybe it's the fact that we always get the same smiling waiter that welcomes us... More

Although we were there on a Friday evening, it was early by Georgetown standards. This allowed us the opportunity to have the undivided attention of our waitress, Marie-Re. It was a delightful experience and a wonderful meal. We were seated in the small front room and the crowds only started to arrive as we were leaving. It would have been... More

If you love France, you will love La Chaumiere! The restaurant provides a beautiful and comfortable Country French décor and ambiance in Georgetown. We were graciously met at the restaurant’s entrance by one of the two French owners, Martin Lumet. All the servers I overheard were clearly French, as was our server, reflected in her very professional attentiveness. The owners’... More

Absolutely delicious, simple French food. Every dish I tasted was perhaps the best of its kind I've ever eaten. The tarte tatin is to die for. Seating is close, so it's best to be open to exchanging friendly words with your neighbors, but that too felt very authentically French. Service was excellent.

I can not remember the first time I dined here but it was a long time ago, nothing has changed. It's still one of the "standard" French restaurants in DC to dine at. One can easily tell by looking around the dining room many familiar faces enjoying another well prepared meal I chose this to have dinner with and meet... More

La Chaumière is lovely traditional French bistro in the Georgetown area of Washington DC. It is decorated in Auberge style with a fireplace and handsome wooden beams. The menu contains a number of unusual items, such as tripe, calves liver, and sweetbreads. It also has many more familiar items. Both the tripe and the steak au poivre were excellent. We... More

After my daughter's graduation at GWU, we walked over to La Chaumiere. It was our first time there. The decor is 'old world' with many pictures on the walls. I nice fireplace is in the middle of the room, and would be nice on a cold winter's night. Service was prompt and menu items were explained well. The food as... More

My family had dinner here based on the recommendation of our hotel concierge, and it was really wonderful. It is fine dining but doesn't feel pretentious. (Even when my child spilled his drink, they were consummate professionals!) The cassoulet was fabulous and worth the wait. The duck was good, although I thought the sauce was a bit tart. The wine...
