I had dinner at Smith & Wollensky with a group of six colleagues on a business trip. Although we didn't have reservations on a Friday night, we were greeted in a really friendly way by the maitre d' (who also checked in with us at the end of the meal) and seated in a special room with a glass wall... We were visiting DC and after the experience at S&W in NYC, I wanted to go here for a birthday dinner. While the overall experience was great, as someone else stated our waiter was a bit to hands off. Seems he would disappear for to long on more than one occasion. The steak was not melt in your mouth as... More

it may have been the portion mismatch that made our experience in this restaurant as something as average. By the time we finished the split pea soup, I thought dinner has to end. Considering that there has been a sense of regret not finishing up the whole dry aged T-bone, I am convinced that it was the supposed the best... More

We had 8 people -- all with different tastes -- and everyone enjoyed! Even the kids loved their meals! Those who had steak really enjoyed it. The rest of us ordered fish and were NOT disappointed. Rarely does a steak house prepare fish well but S+W did NOT disappoint! The tuna, the salmon, calamari, shrimp, etc were all very tasty.... More

Overall I had a pleasant experience, mostly due to good company. The dry aged T-bone was very good. The sides (mushrooms, asparagus, baked potato) were only so-so. The waiter was professional and knowledgable, but perhaps a bit too hands off. I enjoyed the atmosphere, really old school which made for a warm, relaxed environment. I'd give the restaurant an above... More

This is a very good quality steak house. I was expecting a great steak and got one. My wife wasn't wrapt with her meal, she thought the cold seafood was too cold and nearly frozen in the centre. The desert was to die for. If you are after a great steak in a traditional setting this place I would highly... More

We always enjoy our meal here when in DC and our recent visit didn't disappoint. Salmon and filet were both cooked to perfection, while the truffle mac and cheese this trip was again a disappointment, do not recommend it. Am always surprised that S & W doesn't provide SOMETHING more, a few sprigs of asparagus or a dip of mashed... More

I met an ex colleague for a drink and a meal. Service was great and we had a very nice meal. We both had seafood - swordfish and tuna - both were excellent.... The salads we ordered were almost too large and I did not finish mine! I would happily return.

Had dinner here on Wednesday night. We were a bit early and had the choice of the place as far as seating was concerned. Eventually the restaurant filled around us, and it took on a life of it's own. S&W is a fairly regular stop for us, although not often enough that management will know who we are or anything.... More

Love everything about this restaurant especially the little known secret that they offer free corkage, can't beat that! The only other steakhouse that compares to S & W is Ray's the Steaks in Arlington which technically I prefer... but that isn't in DC. The service here is also outstanding, Amanda, one of the fomer asst managers always went out of... More
