Eating is believing

Great chili hotdogs, great atmosphere, informal and friendly service. Only one minor point: I was suprised though to find a Bill Cosby picture hanging at the wall.

This was listed as one of the Top 10 things to do in DC, and we were not disappointed! Walking inside was slightly intimidating due to the loud music, bright decor and crowd of people, but we were immediately met with friendly faces. Looking around the restaurant, it was great to see all the photographs of celebrities and historical figures... More

This place was the best place we ate when we were in DC. Being from Texas and being Cowboys fans we took some ribbing but it was all in Good Fun! The folks there treated us like family and the food and service was the best! Its a must to! Prices are good and its great for the whole family!... More

Trip Advisor Doesn't List H NE Location- This Review is for that location: -------------- I have been a fanatic of Ben's on U St for decades but something has been lost. What was a dive in the best sense of the word has become a tourist trap. I will say that service here on H St NE was exceptional and... More

Hardly worth the trouble. There isn't much public parking available. There was a lot 3 blocks away that cost $15. The food was mediocre and the restaurant was in run down condition. Meal cost about $60 for a family of 5. Really for hot dogs, chili and fries. We went to Old Ebbitt Grill and had a great dinner for... More

This so called "restaurant" was recommended by a US colleague as a "must do" when in DC and turned out to be another cultural misunderstanding. It is fairly easy to find if you come out from the correct exit of U Street tube. I was left unimpressed with the place: it is a just grotty fast food joint, with an... More

I visited Ben's Chili Bowl after taking my youth ministry on a college tour of Howard University. They made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in the door. We didn't just get a hot dog, we got an experience. They showed our kids a video about the history of the restaurant. Then, after it was over, one... More

With better customer service this would be 5 stars. A must-eat restaurant in the DC area simply because it is iconic; however, I won't be returning since I'm not a big fan of chili dogs.

My husband had the chili dog and hasn't stopped talking about it. Personally I'm not a chili fan so I ordered the burger without chili. Big mistake. Go for the chili. It is what makes their food so good. Glad we went.

Half-smoke and chilli! This is one of the best sausage and chilli we’ve tasted. It was so good that we had this again at the Ronald Reagan Airport branch before leaving Washington, DC. The prices at the airport branch are slightly higher than the U Street restaurant but very conveniently located for travellers.
