Busy and friendly

This popular place is anything but anonymous. I was pleasantly suprised by the friendliness of the staff and other clients. Food was unpretentious as expected but the atmosphere was unexpectedly nice.

I've just had a fantastic breakfast at Ben's. I had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and grits: there was a very generous amount of food and it was so tasty. It cost about $9, which, in my opinion, was a bargain. It really is a hidden gem in the city: it is located near to the U Street... More

We have just moved to DC from London and this restaurant features in all the travel books about DC that we have read! So Friday night we headed there after a few drinks on U street. It was what I would only compare with a London kebab shop. My husband had their smoked sausage with chili and I just had... More

So, I'm from DC and grew up 3 blocks away so perhaps I'm jaded. I don't know what people expect to find here. Visit DC, visit U St., but there are other worthwhile restaurants to visit.

This is a must visit for anyone in DC, but you probably already knew that. The line will be around the corner during peak times like Friday and Saturday night, so I highly suggest going during an off peak time, try a late lunch or on a weeknight. The half smoke is the classic, but I actually go with a... More

Seriously folks, with all the good places to eat in DC, Ben's should be avoided unless you want to say you stopped. Not a great location and the food is sub par to be kind.

Saw Ben's on the food network just before I left for DC and thought why not. It is a hole in the wall, but once you go inside its fairly large. I just had a bowl of chili which was good. I sat at the counter and saw the dishes being prepared and everything looked good. As noted in a... More

Might have been a great place, not anymore, over priced, over hyped for a decent chilli dog. I am not saying it is not good, but it is not good as they hype it for. Go Local, find so many hole in the wall restaurants.
