So I've been going to 1789 for roughly 15 years on and off. It sort of comes around the calendar once a year for an anniversary or birthday or celebration - and we say "hey what about 1789?". I can think of really no other restaurants that are more quintessentially DC than 1789. It's located in a gorgeous building in... More

We went here for my birthday and were not disappointed. The staff immediately was classy and attentive. All of our waiters and waitresses were so knowledgeable on every item on the menu and always offered more information about how the food was prepared or the history of the building. The room was cozy and quiet and while the restaurant itself... More

We have been going to 1789 for 30 years, it had been several years since our last visit. This is still one of the Washington areas best restaurants. Service is impeccable, food is always imaginative and interesting. The free valet parking is quick and efficient. The hostess greeted us warmly and escorted us to our table without delay. They have... More

We have been fans of 1789 for about 17 years but tonight they out did themselves. I love this restaurant because it is an excellent farm to table dining experience. Right now I recommend the Foie Gras and the gnocchi as appetizers. They both were outstanding. The monkfish entree is beyond delicious. It is perfectly seasoned and complimented with seasonal... Based on professional and Trip Advisor reviews, we expected classic fine dining. Instead, we found what seemed an awkward attempt at “accessible fine dining.” Perhaps to avoid conveying any hint of the dreaded “stuffiness” of an elegant establishment, an individual hurried to great us, with much energy and enthusiasm when she saw us waiting in the foyer. I know she... More

We spent our anniversary dinner here while in DC. It's really beautiful, great atmosphere. But, be prepared to spend some money, it's not cheap! They just got a new chef and he/she is doing a great job as far as I can tell. We did the recommended 3 course meal and then ice cream for dessert. It's in Georgetown and... More

This was one of the best meals ever. The attention to detail and the level of quality was incredible - the only other place we've seen anything comparable was The Inn at Little Washington.
