I've been there quite a long time ago now but the impressions of this place are hard to forget. The unique and quaint setting, the amazing service and the delicious food are only a few things this places deserve. If you would like to have the perfect meal in a typical DC historical setting, this is the place to be.

One night only...and I was looking for a top quality American cuisine. I didn't realize that my daughter and I would stumble onto one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The staff was super attentive and made us feel special the moment we approached the historic building. The food was nothing less than remarkable. You MUST get... More

They really go out of their way to make it a "old school" fine dining experience. Jackets for men suggested. The food and service were perfect.

A family favorite, 1789 was our host for Easter for a third year in a row. A beautiful setting for dinner with its intricately woven small dining rooms in a traditional Georgetown town house. We enjoyed a glass of wine from an excellent menu to start the meal as we shared joys from the day. We started with a split... More

We celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary with dining at 1789. They completely exceeded our expectations. The ambiance is incredible. It is old and rustic while maintaining some masculinity. The service was incredible. They are so attentive. You never get to the bottom of your glass. They are also very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to ordering. The food was... More

My husband and I found this Restaurant through trip advisor, on entering I felt like I was actually a member of a Secret society ( really did) .Picture this a very old style home with a small bar area to the left ,very small entrance and stairway and a coat check person all in a very small space ( felt... What a great restaurant! Lovely old house style building in Georgetown. Sat upstairs in a cosy floor with about 8 tables. They have a dedicated server station upstairs so the service is still excellent and attentive. A great varied menu structured in a four course division (4th being cheese, with a separate dessert menu later). I had a generous portion... More

This is a very elegant restaurant featuring several small, cozy rooms filled with historical memorabilia. Our server, when asked about the origin of the name, gave a staggeringly comprehensive answer that I couldn't reproduce if I wanted to. Not surprisingly,it all started with the founding days of the Republic. The duck breast I ordered (minus the pancetta-wrapped heart, thank you)... More

The restaurant that Ris built needs her back. More than half the dishes were disappointing - the problem is that while artfully presented, the food is uninspired or improperly prepared. Given the top draw prices this is simply inexcusable Dinners now have many others choices and should consider them
