Terrific service, excellent food, not sufficient choice of wines by the glass, but we overlooked that. Just a great fine dining experience.

Went to this restaurant as part of a birthday celebration. Couldn't have been happier with the result. The lamb main course was outstanding; monkfish as well. Appetizers of scallops and cucumber gazpacho were excellent. Service was outstanding in every way.

Group dinner so we were a bit noisy. But staff were excellent - attentive, helpful, but not intrusive. Place is actually bit difficult to find. Food was excellent. 'Modern American' I think is the term. Definitely hope to return

Most of the food was excellent. The ambiance was lovely. The servers were efficient, knowledgeable and friendly, though a bit too intrusive for my taste. (Really, guys, I don't need you to identify every single item on my plate when you serve it.) So why the poor rating? At the end of the meal, when I asked for directions to... More

The food here was just unreal. I had the steak and blackberry tartlette, which was just exquisitely presented, and they presented us with goodies before the meal (some sort of special infused watermelon) and after (shortbread cookies topped with jam). The bread--made in-house and served warm--was amazing, and the butter...sigh. Heavenly. Truly one of the best meals I've had in... More

Best food quality /// service combination available with an extremely intimate ambience if you don't mind paying roughly $75 per person.

Terrific Service from everyone from the greeter at the front door to the busman. My waiter, Stelios is one of the best ever. The food was amazing. I shall return.

My daughter just got engaged and I was in town for a prearranged visit. I took her and her fiancé to celebrate. They had a special 3 course meal special which all of us ordered. My cucumber gazpacho with lump crab was awesome. My daughter enjoyed the squid ink calamari and her fiancé also liked the heirloom tomatoes. Main courses... More

Eating at 1789 on July 14th (to celebrate my wife's birthday) I had expected a special menu. But then 1789 has nothing to do with the French Revolution but rather with the founding of Georgetown! The menu was not French but contemporary American. Still, we were not disappointed. The scallops and duck confit were amazing as starters, and the rockfish... More

We were a lively group of 9 friends/colleagues from the USA, Canada, Spain, Scotland and Hong Kong who walked across the Potomac River from the Marriot Lee Bridge int historic Georgetown for dinner at 1789 (The date Georgetown was founded we were told). The building itself is old, beautiful and has a history in itself and each of the many... More
