Very good food in a classic atmosphere at not unreasonable prices. The service is also of a significantly high level.

Each of the rooms in the house converted to this restaurant has a slightly different ambiance and size. We ate in the small bar room to the left if the main entrance. It had a warm comfortable feeling enhanced by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The food was also warm and comforting, as close to home cooking as... More

Wonderful upscale restaurant located in historic Georgetown home, just a couple feet away from the Exorcist Steps. The food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere warm and cozy. (Free valet parking available too.) Admittedly it's not the sort of restaurant I'd typically try -- given the high prices and jacket required attire -- but we were being treated... More

In an old historic building in Georgetown you find this restaurant. We had lunch - a group of 9 - and the 4 courses were served with competence by our waiter. And 4 very tasty and very well cooked and with an appealing appearance! Absolutely to recommend - but have time - and have an empty stomach if you enter... More

1789 has an elegant, formal ambiance, and overall the food is excellent. However, the menu is misleading if not downright dishonest and that knocked 1789's rating down quite a bit in my estimation. My wife and I both ordered as a main course the duck which as described on the menu as "duck breast, duck leg confit, and fois gras."... More

They fixed a table for 4 in 10 minutes without booking. Athmosphere is special and makes you feel at home. We all had goose liver as starter and duck as the main, it was really good and the presentation was great. Wine list is not that excessive, but has most every region represented.

Overall a very nice dining experience. We arrived a bit ahead of our reservation to get a pre-dinner drink and found the bar to be way too small to be comfortable. The bartender was nice and told us about the history of the restaurant, presidents who have dined there etc. but take out advice and grab a drink somewhere else... More

Found this restaurant on a list when looking for suggestions for an upcoming trip to DC. We dined on Friday night, we were personally greeted and seated close to the charming bar. Our waiter was very informative and gave us the history of the restaurant. Our wonderful starter was a butternut squash soup. As a second we had the scallops... More

Found this restaurant in a guide book and was fascinated by its history and list of previous diners which include American Presidents! The restaurant itself is split into at least four separate dining rooms which makes for a nice cosy atmosphere.. The menu was lovely and food delicious, we also received excellent service from the second we arrived to the... More
