We were at 1789 for DC Restaurant Week and it was packed. To its credit, the restaurant was doing a good job of coping with the high numbers. The atmosphere was great and the food and wine was delicious. We were particularly pleased that we had opted for the wine pairing menu. It really worked well. The complimentary valet parking... Took my girlfriend there for a very special night after proposing marriage in the Limousine on the way over. Told our waiter and within minutes the restaurant had sent over complimentary champagne. The manager came over to congratulate us and before we left they gave us a gold wrapped scroll of the menu and a card from the restaurant and... More

In short this is a must visit when in Washington. The reception, ambience, food and service was first rate. Food and wine was wonderful with a good wine menu. Cheese board was one of the best I had with an exceptional Blue cheese availbale (cant remember the name!). Within the trendy and fashonable Georgetown. The best thing however about this... More

While the holiday decor makes December dining here a special treat, the food and menu from new chef, Sam Kim, is the reason to go. He has blended old and new and offers what was one of the best meals we have had. There is something for everyone, with plenty of choices of either meat or fish, but the menu... More

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was a great experience. They personalized her menu to say happy birthday, which was cool. They even gave her a personalized hand written birthday card after I paid. There was a choir of about five men singing christmas carols all throughout our dinner and the christmas decor throughout the restaurant... More

I have to qualify this review by saying we were with a group and it was a special occasion, so I don't think it would be anything like a date night, or regular outing to the restaurant. With that being said the food very good, the service was some of the best I have ever experienced and the atmosphere was... More

Celebrating our 40th anniversary. Wanted somewhere that was special! The 1789 delivered. Decorated to the period. Building with a lot of history. We arrived a little early, no problem table was ready. Instead of the normal table(sitting across from each other), we were seated at a table that was designed in a corner. Significance-this allowed us to sit side by... More

New chef in the last few months and he is very good. The menu offers lots of choices and the food is consistently good. During Christmas season the decorations are armong the best of any D.C. restaurant. There are several rooms so the restaurant seems smaller than it is. Our favorite is the one witih the fireplace, straight ahead as... More
