It had been many years since my last dining experience at 1789, but our group enjoyed many of the same charms from ages past. Yet, while the food was fine, it didn't feel particularly innovative, and, but for the restaurant's reputation, didn't really merit the prices charged. The sablefish was oversalted, the foix gras was an uninspired presentation, and the... More

We sat in the 'civil war' room, cozy with tons of ambience!! Martinis were perfect. Started with foix gras, scallops and tuna tartare. Superb all, the foix gras melts in your mouth. Main dishes were rabbit and duck, both excellent! Wine list was reasonable, with some very expensive but also some nice wine at 50/bottle. and we ended with double... More

While in DC I have the tradition of booking a table at this restaurant to share a meal with a colleague from one of the agencies. We've been to the restaurant about half a dozen times over the past ten years. It is impeccable. We always have the seafood, usually prepared simply with abundant steamed vegetables. Since you're sharing a... More

I was a lucky invite to a business dinner here. Great old world decor and incredible food. Very impressive place to take clients in Georgetown. Rib eye was done perfectly- crusty outside and rare in - just as I ordered it.

This restaurant was excellent and I would love to go back for our next anniversary. The food was some of the best we have had in a long time. A well developed menu and wine list, dessert was amazing. My husband had told them that we were celebrating our anniversary and our menu came with Happy Anniversary written on it.... More

Don't go here for a cheap night out, but do go to enjoy really well cooked and presented food in elegant surroundings, professionally served and all in a very welcoming atmosphere. This was one of the best meals I have enjoyed in many years travelling in the USA, and would certainly go again.

We dined at the 1789 Restaurant after in celebration of my wife finishing the Marine Corps Marathon. Dinner was spectacular! Service was attentive but not hovering. The dining area was intimate but not claustrophobic. We definitely will return.

I had dinner here tonight with a group of friends. Started out great with nice hostess and cozy dining area. We were charmed by waiter with French accent. Starter of butternut squash soup was great and my rock fish special was pretty good--better be for $37! One friend thought the lamb dish was spectacular. Another friend asked our waiter if... More

We went here for a birthday celebration. The folks at 1789 knocked it out of the park. From the manager, to the bartender, to the servers, everything was perfect without being overbearing. This is not for the T-shirts an jeans crowd. Would recommend it highly and we will return again.

Very good food in a classic atmosphere at not unreasonable prices. The service is also of a significantly high level.
