Just off the White House is the Occidental, a fine dining place with a great history. We had a pleasant evening with a large group (20 persons) so we had one of the larger rooms upstairs. You sit surrounded by paintings of former presidents and a lot of mirrors. The service was good, and we were... read more

One could feast on all the gorgeous art in this restaurant! Many, many paintings/illustrations of Presidents and other important people. Our appetizers and entrees were excellent...Maryland Crab Cakes, Char and Lamb. The service was friendly and helpful. We can't wait to return and explore other items on the menu. The Bar area is also beautiful.

I had dinner here in April 2015. It was my first visit. I had one of their specials which was pan seared salmon on a bed of capers and risotto. It was excellent. The cornbread they provided as a starter was incredible. The ambiance is one of dark wood paneling with lots of historical portraits of people that have eaten... More

Washington D. C. is confusing, intimidating and overwhelming. Lunch, however, need NOT be! The Occidental was simply a random choice for us- without recommendation or endorsement. Their bunch on a Spring Sunday afternoon was serendipitious and delicious - beginning with the Thyme of my Life, a drink combination I had no hope for but will now never forget! We chose... More

....outside on a warm afternoon....after doing a few touristy things.....a nice lunch. We had their version of a BLT.....which was amazing....with thick apple smoked bacon, fried green tomatoes, avocado, lettuce and an aoili dressing....yumm! Truffle fries are worth the extra. Cheese board is good too!

Have eaten here two years in a row when I visit DC, the outdoor patio is a delightful venue, meals at both visits were excellent! Steak tartare on the first visit, and grilled calamari on the second visit. Both meals usually not done right at typical restaurants but they excelled here. Wait staff knowledgeable and superior attitude!

We went to the Occidental for lunch on a Saturday. We were told that we had to wait 30 minutes for a table but we could eat at the bar. During the one hour lunch at the bar there were three empty tables in the dining room. Getting service at the bar was a challenge. We ordered hamburgers without buns... More

I've been here to the Occidental Grill at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in DC twice. The first time I had dinner in the Truman Bar which was interesting in itself because of the caricatures of many famous people from all walks of life displayed on its walls. Most recently I had dinner with my wife and friends outside since the... More
