We did not stay at the Willard hotel ,home to the occidental, but next door at the JWMarriott. Having seen reviews for the hotels Parc cafe, we decided to give it a try,but checking the menus go the grill and the cafe, we decided to go to the occidental. Wow! So good...so fresh..husband had stuffed saddle of rabbit and I... More

Given that this was probably the 5th or 6th time I have eaten at the Occidental Grill it seems safe to assume it is one of my favorite DC restaurants. The sense of history one feels, the photos of decades of political "mover and shakers', the brass plaques in some of the booths recognizing important talks that occurred there, all... More

We had a wonderful lunch! It was a beautiful spring day and we were looking for a place to eat outside. What a great find! The lobster roll was delicious, and paired with the spring sangria, a match made in haven. We will definitely go back when visiting DC next time.

The Occidental is a regal establishment with a great history. They have, in the past, set the standard for service and one could always count on a good food. There seems to be somethign going on as i have been thre twice in the last month and only the busboys and those that support the servers seem to be on... More

I recently took a group of 35 to lunch at the Occidental and the service was tortuously slow. After 2 hours, they barely got through 2 courses and had to leave before dessert was served. And we pre-ordered the first course and entrees in advance so the chef had the counts. When I brought our service concerns to the manager's... More

If you are looking for a place with amazing food, service and history then look no further than the Occidental. I had my very first rare steak here and haven't found a place that compares since. Pricey but well worth it and a great spot for a celebratory dinner or just to kick off a nice night on the Capitol.

Went here with a group because we did not have reservations and this place could seat us immediately. The lack of people should have been a red flag. Service was good for the size group we had. We ordered oysters on the half shell for an appetizer and I have never in my life seen oysters this small. Several were... More

Great food. We started out with a great waiter. But some other guy took over he was awful. We tried to move the reservation from 6 to 630. Said we could not. But there were still empty tables when we left.

From the haughty, disinterested hostesses to the clueless wait staff, this place is no longer on my list for business lunch. Thanks to great weather, four of us sat outside today and waited -and waited - for staff to show any interest in providing bread, taking a food order, etc. Water glasses were constantly re-filled but a simple request for... I ate there alone on a work trip. I had dinner at the bar but they were very attentive. I ordered the pork chops and asked what wine to have - they brought out two wines to try and both were good and not the most expensive wines. The pork chops and pork belly were the best i ever had.... More
