I have been here several times over the years. The place has historic charm. The style is simple. As the dinning rooms are small thus it can be loud and cramped but that can also be what I like about the place. At times I have had great meals but some have been average. Breakfast is always... read more

Recently had dinner at this charming restaurant while staying in Washington. The atmosphere in this restaurant is remarkable. The decor is intimate 40's moderately informal with a view of a small brick enclosed patio outside. There is a real Washington vibe with multiple congress types with staffers having dinner. The noise level is quite remarkable (fairly loud). The cocktails were... More

We had a cocktail here in April for work--- upstairs in one of the smaller rooms. The food was very average, despite a high price. The bar was classic--- nothing special. I was surprised, since the restaurant has good food and reasonable service.

Very nice range of choices, including wonderful pancakes, quality sausage sides, house made scones and granola, fine French toast, etc. The coffee was above average, but not exceptional and the service can be a bit spotty, but the surroundings are wonderfully different and the whole place exudes an Elizabethan air. Well worth a visit, but did not sample their lunch... More

Got brunch with two couples on a Saturday. Interesting place steeped in its charming history. We sat in second floor room with two other large tables which were quite loud. Reviewers speak of this and one has to be ready for it. Food was outstanding. Donuts: everything is true about how good they are. Glad we went and would again,... More

Tabard Inn Restaurant has been recommended to me for brunch by many friends who either live in DC or travel here often. The reason being that the food is good, the place is full of history, and the DONUTS. I had previously been for dinner, but never could score a reservation for brunch. Well, I was finally successful and have... More

I've been to Tabard Inn Restaurant a few times, but mainly for drinks. The most recent time, I went out for a double date night with some friends, and overall, I don't think we were particularly impressed. For me, the dining area in the main room by the bar is too cramped. There are some table setups where you literally... More

We were a large group of 9 or 10 and after some waiting were given a separate room with nice Victorian style décor. My three courses were all excellent but the main (tuna steak) was the best - I haven't had a better one in a long time. Great selection of wines and attentive service.

A year ago WaPo's terrifying reviewer (Tom Sietsema) ripped Tabard shortly after their kitchen staff apparently resigned en masse. Well today, Easter Sunday, my wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal. We started with their famous donuts for an appetizer. It's more like a fried cake (i.e., more heavy and bready than, say, an airy Krispy Kreme) and delicious, served... More

Not great. Looked menu up online, not the same when we got there. Not accommodating to children at all. Menu did not mention all ingredients in dish. Had to send back because of allergies.
