My friends and I were in DC for a quick weekend getaway (from NYC) and we made reservations here. Our time was limited as to had to be elsewhere and they couldn't have been more accommodating. We were seated promptly and served even quicker. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger (I should've ordered something fancier, but since we were on a... More

I sat at the bar just before the busy lunch hour and ordered a fabulous veggie burger and chardonnay. All I can say is beautiful. Beautiful wine, food, eminence and price. And the service positively influences patrons! My evidence? I was asked to move down a few seats at the bar (prior to my food being served) and the waitress... More

This is one of those power player restaurants in Washington, and it certainty looks the part--wood paneling and fancy-schmancy fixtures and decorations everywhere. It's one of those places everyone in DC is expected to know and love. The service and atmosphere are certainly what one would expect from one of the city's best restaurants, but the food didn't live up... More

Open since the 1850s, this location has a tremendous amount of historical signigicance. The bar is stunning, the atmosphere is exciting (maybe a bit loud), and the food is excellent. I had the clam chowder and the beef liver and both were far above average in taste and presentation.

For being in the "tourist" area near the White House and Smithsonian Museums, this is a classic and elegant spot to take a respite for cocktails, fantastic and flavorful oysters, pasta, and sandwiches in a beautiful location with original artwork and frescoes to add to the ambience. A bit pricey but worth the expense. Our server was informative and attentive.... More

Our last night in DC so we chose the Old Ebbitt grill. We did not have a reservation and it was packed when we arrived. The front desk staff were very polite and we expected a 20 minute wait so we had a drink in the bar. After only 10 mins we were shown to our table. The menu has... More

Yes, I know Old Ebbitt Grill is basically Clyde's with an attitude, and yes I know it is a tourist haven. But it is just plain fun, with a lot of good eats and drinks to make for a special evening. We've been there numerous times, and I am still amazed at how well it works and how efficiently they... More

Very nice restaurant. It's full of history and located very close to the White House and surrounding areas. We make a point of eating here each time we come to DC. The buffalo wings are very good and the sandwiches are stuffed liberally. I could only finish half the sandwich after an appetizer! I'd recommend reservations although you may get... More

I returned to Old Ebbitt after many years and was pleased to see that it had retained its character and bar-like ambiance. I went for a later dinner and ate at the bar. It was late, but they did a good business that got more boisterous as the evening progressed. I was less pleased with the food. I had a... More

This was one of the best lunches my wife and family have experienced. Our friend from DC took us here as her favorite place to eat in DC. It did not disappoint. The customer atmosphere is wide ranging from business suits to tourists like us. Everyone is welcome. It has a historic, rustic setting. The service is top notch. Charlie,... More
