We found this restaurant on last years trip and knew that it would be our "go to" restaurant this year. We were there over Thanksgiving week and ate 3 of our meals here, including Thanksgiving dinner. Let me start by advising to get dinner reservations....the wait will be long otherwise. Our Thanksgiving dinner consisted of huge portions of the usual... more

One block from the White House (through the Treasury Dept.). Recently listed as a "power dining" spot. Touristy. Neat, old-style grill room decor. Good food for the price. Service rushed us even though it was not particularly busy on Sunday night after Thanksgiving Day, 2009. Probably would not go back as a tourist, but would recommend to others with qualifications. more

Oysters were definitely worth our wait. We were told that the wait for a table was about an hour. We were thinking about it, but decided to stay. Once we got to one of the bars, we didn't mind the wait. Our bartender was great. He served us drinks in no time and ordered an appetizer (oysters sampler), which was... more

This is a great place for lunch. We sat at the bar and had a great meal of crabcakes and sweet potato gratin, which was OMG good. So good I had to ask the bartender for the recipe, which he said is their most requested recipe and it is on their website. This place can get crowded at lunch due... more

Until I just read the reviews before writing this I had no idea this place was so famous. We were told to come here by a man we were talking to at Newark airport, having flown in from the UK. We happened to see it as we were coming from looking at the White House. It was busy & there... more

Old Ebbit Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was good and reasonable. There will be a wait for dinner given the number of people drinking and then eating. Near White House; old tavern; great atmosphere. more

Oysters were great, everything else not so much. We were led through the main dining room to what appeared to be a blocked off lobby of a hotel. VERY loud. Pepper mill was empty, when asked for another, it never came--borrowed one from diner next to me. Server was poor (and I'm not a complainer). Drinks came LONG after they... more

If you're new to Washington and you've not been to Ebbit's Grill you really should go. One of those Old World restarant/bar places. The food is good. There is usually a wait at lunch time. We like to sit at the bar to eat....you can usually get a seat at one of them.. I think there are four in the... more

This restaurant was referred to me twice - first by a relative from Boston and second by a total stranger that we met at the National Symphony Labor Day concert on the west lawn of the Capitol. We were very excited about our evening plans for this restaurant and didn't hold back. Several appies (including the crabcakes) and two wonderful... more
