Make It More Than Your Bar! Food Excellent Too!

We went to the Old Ebbitt Grill because it was listed as a 150-year old institution right in the middle of downtown (walked past the Whitehouse & Treasury to get there)! Most go to drink, but that is not my thing! We assure it is worth it for the food. Pasta is home-made on site, and my fish was... read more

The menu is great at this place. I am a terrific crab cake. Others had liver, lamb shank, shrimp and grits, and the meatloaf. Warning- the meatloaf portion was huge- one person loved it; the other didn't like it at all. The wait staff was friendly and attentive as I have food allergies. However, service was pretty slow. Overall thought,... More

I was traveling in the DC area on business, and my hotel concierge recommended this place. I came and dined alone at the bar, and the atmosphere was incredible. Full of such rich history, and was exactly the kind of place I was looking for. The bartender recommended the Shrimp and Grits, and they were fantastic! For an upscale place,... More

Service is good, food reasonable not outstanding. Location is all. Mobbed in the summer, less so in the winter and ear;y spring. Close to the Mall there are few options and this is one of the better ones. Worth it when you are on the tourist trek and running on emtpy.

Very busy but enjoyable. Reservations are a must unless you aren't on a schedule. They try to hurry you through your meal but aren't offended if you take your time. We had a good but pretty pedestrian breakfast but dinner was very good. We would definitely return the next time we are in DC.

A must DC visit. Teddy Roosevelt's buffalo head mounted above the bar. Great food, much history, good location, but reservations a must. A bit touristy but after all, it's DC.

We hadn't booked and when we walked in the place was packed, we expected to have to wait for a table but were shown to one straight away. Our waiter (I wish we could remember his name) came over and reeled off the specials and what he would recommend. The starters were excellent, oysters for the wife and clams for... More

We had over 100 people in the atrium area! What a wonderful place to gather! The service was great & the food ( brunch) fantastic! I strongly recommend it for a large get together. The restaurant was packed, very busy & congested! Our area was quiet and personal!
