Good solid neighborhood bistro

Black salt closed for renovation and Et Voila dark sunday late afternoon so we tried with our adult kids. After comically inept struggle with Open Table we just showed up in an almost empty but very friendly cozy little place where the very helpful manager served us personally. $21 three course... read more

WE've been wanting to try this place for a couple of years. We've been several times to the other Belgian restaurant in the neighborhood, Et Voila. We went to Sur La Place to celebrate a small success by our son. Atmosphere is nice, salad was very nice, but the main course was really poor. Our son's steak frites was mediocre.... More

This is a fairly small restaurant in the Palisades section of DC that highlights Belgian cuisine. We got a 3 course meal for just under $30 each. Portions small but adequate. The Belgian stew was excellent and the bread pudding was delicious. One of our party had one of the mussels dinners, a specialty of the house and raved. We... More

Sur La Place was recommended to my wife and me by a friend who knows good food. We went there for my wife's birthday and could not have been more pleased. We both took advantage of the "any choice from the menu 3-course dinner for $21." For appetizer, my wife had escargots and I a boar and cranberry sausage over... More

We ate here recently and had house salads (excellent), seafood bouillabaisse (mediocre average), and Cornish game hen (average). The place was not worth a 20 mile drive to get there. We won't be back.

Great neighborhood place! After moving to the Palisades neighborhood a year ago, my wife and I have tried all the local restaurants multiple times. For consistency, variety, quality and price in a fun atmosphere any time of year, Sur La Place is the best of them by far (no knock on SLP's higher end Belgian sibling Et Voila, but that's... More

Came here with some family friends whom are regulars and highly rate the food. I had a salad which was amazingly presented, the chef had obviously gone to some effort to plate it so I was impressed straight off the bat. Looked better than it tasted, however was still nice. For main I had one of their lamb sausages on... More

The mussels were overdone, the beer was warm, the potato-leek soup tasted as though a potato had been dragged through warm milk, and the brussel sprouts were underdone. Service was good as were the French Fries.

Unless you are looking for a 3 hour dinner with terrible service, you may want to look elsewhere for Belgian food (ie, Et Voila across the street, which is hands down much better). Bad sign #1: As we were being seated, a gentleman approached the owner/manage and threatened to leave because they weren't being served. Bad sign #2: We had... More

Maybe we visited on an "off" night, but we found the restaurant to be fairly unwelcoming. The owners, kitchen and wait staff were having serious issues, which were apparent to all guests. Nothing worse than feeling like you've just walked into the middle of a family argument - especially when you're goal is to enjoy a quiet dinner for two,... More
