Very creative comfort food

The chef is one of the most creative in DC. Although she tolerates the traditional kind of food, her best creations are modifications that preserve the comfort but add different flavors.

I was here during restaurant week; a 3 course dinner of appetizer, main and dessert for $35. The portions were not large; but adequate. The food was very well prepared. I sat in the back room off the main room, which is the quietest location. The kitchen mixed up the order of one of my party, but remedied that very... More

Remembering how much we enjoyed RIS when we visited for dinner, we booked a table for brunch. Wow! I'm so glad we did. Cameron took great care of us and the Kitchen excelled : possibly the best home fries ever, scrumptious smoked salmon, marvelous kale (yes!), amazing Vigilante coffee, and perfect cookies to finish. All of this in a cozy,... More

My third time to Ris. Expensive but the food is great. Last two times I had the duck which was wonderful but pricey ($38). Do not miss the scallop 'margarita' appetizer. It is ceviche but better than you ever had. Pure genius. The fresh grilled fish (trout) was simply but deliciously prepared and accompanied by yummy roast potatoes. The French... More

Really delicious meal starting with oysters, followed by rockfish and lamb entrees with us both sharing a cauliflower entrees for oour sides, a bottle of rose/Pinot noir recommended by the wine concierge and finishing the meal with the cookie plate and ice cream/sorbet combo. One minor glitch that was immediately corrected and an offer of desserts on the house. A... More

I was there for a private dinner event for about 20 people. The food was very good. They have good wines on the list too.

Three couples visited RIS for dinner - and everyone's dinner was delicious with beautiful presentation! The fish special was great with an excellent sauce. My cauliflower crown with raisins, spaghetti squash, pine nuts & goat cheese was excellent. the butterscotch sundae was really good also. Service was excellent!

We enjoyed the experience. Ordered a Portuguese style cod and it was fresh and delicious. To combine we drank also Portuguese wine from the Douro region and it was a great and delicate wine. Service was efficient and friendly.

My husband and I had lunch at RIS yesterday - this was a special event devoted to the memory of Julia Child. The lunch was based on Julia's recipes for Potato Leek Soup and Beef Bourgignon and both were amazingly delicious and perfect! The bread basked was all Ris Lacoste and we loved it - cheddar dill scones, biscuits, French... More

A chicken pot pie that was tasteless and pricey, a laughable and unexplained $1 surcharge for a side of collard greens, and service that was less than stellar turned what could have been an excellent experience into one that was merely average. I also found the decor to be an unimpressive mishmash. There were some excellent dishes, notably the red... More
