My first time having Sierre Leone food and I must say the food and service was remarkable. The owner allowed me to sample to help me make a decision on my order. I ordered the vegeterian option with fish. The portion can feed 3/4 people. I had left overs, but after the 2nd day I trashed it :( The location... More

My wife and I were both on Ghana before we were married. Recently we had a couple of friends visit that were also in Ghana previously. We wanted to find a place that served African food, and had a good "African Experience." When we ate here, we were very pleased and left happy with our itch for a taste of... More

This is the classic hole in the wall but the food is delicious and the staff are friendly. Great food from west Africa. The owner have me a sample plate to help me choose what I wanted. No alcohol license though.

Great food, wonderful staff, and relaxed atmosphere. The food was fresh and tasty, and the staff was warm and friendly. Had some amazing pounded yam! Definitely going back again.

Absolutely THE BEST SIERRA LEONE FOOD IN TOWN! EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS & the customer service you receive from when you walk in the door until you leave is so hospitable! Unsure on what to order the owner lets you sample a little of EVERYTHING and was very patient w/me (being as though I'm a very picky eater lol).....I live in... More

This restaurant was recommended to me be one of my Nigerian classmates. I am so happy I found this jewel!!! The food is really good and very flavorful, and the customer service is undeniably wonderful. I am an American, and I have never tasted an "African" dish before. So when I came in to Sumah's, I was offered a sample... More

Great food. Good deal. Great service. I came here with my cousin a couple of Sundays ago. The manager brought out dishes for us to taste test. He's of a great and comforting disposition. The food is great and the servings are quite large. Not a shiny or fancy restaurant by any means, but the food makes it worth many... More

I've always loved West African food from my two years in the Peace Corps, Sierra Leone '62-64. That the organisers of our 49th reunion chose Sumah's created a time-warp. I was delighted to discover this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in northwest Washington DC, nearly choked out of existence by redevelopment. I tried to sample a bit of everything. Since we were... More
