We serve only fresh, American Family Farm sourced ingredients in our great signature dishes like Chicken Pot Pie, Butcher's Cut meats, Chicken N' Waffles, big green salads, rustic farm sandwiches and soups, tall, delectable pies and desserts, in an atmosphere that's comfortable and welcoming like a farmhouse. Founding Farmers is a Certified Green Restaurant, operates Carbon Neutral with offset credits via CarbonFund, and has been designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification criteria. Founding Farmers was the first LEED Gold restaurant in DC, and was the first full service, upscale LEED Gold restaurant in the U.S. We are proud of our partnership with George Washington University and have established an annual $5,000 scholarship for a student studying sustainability, and have recently enhanced our partnership with an apiary (beehive) on Lisner Hall.

Busy but worth it

My mom and I went to have dinner here at around 5:00pm. It was already bustling and the bar was two deep. We lucked out and were told as long as we were finished by 6:30 they could get us a table. We agreed. We both ordered the Prime Rib Dip. The bread it came on made the sandwich that... read more

Tasty treats in a hip space. Fried green tomatoes were so-so, but entrees and drinks were mmm-mmm-good! Plus appreciated local sourcing.

Good menu items for all. We've been a couple of times & always enjoy the experience. We've eaten @ the bar, by the bar, and also upstairs. Latest dining experience tried the prosciutto flat bread, corn bread, bacon lollipop, scallops and all American platter. For dessert we made room for cobbler. All items were tasty. Wait can be long at... More

We were so excited to have lunch here after the great reviews, but I was a little dissppointed. Lots to choose from on the menu. I ordered the scallops and butternut squash risotto and they both were so salty that I could not finish them. A shame because they were excellent quality. The Chicken pot pie and shrimp were good.... Love the farm to table. Be sure to make reservation. It books up quickly and for good reason. Will definitely go back when in the DC area.

This was recommended to us by different people - so glad we checked it out! Bacon lolli appetizers were delicious - full of flavor and devoured quickly! All three of our meals were delicious; shrimp and grits, pot roast (a MUST!) and the chicken and waffles. Large portions, delicious. Chocolate milkshake for dessert was the best I've ever had. Loved... More

The atmosphere is posh and interesting. Take time to walk around the restaurant if you have time. The wait staff was very helpful and know the menu and will happily walk you through each item. The food is fresh and purchased from local markets. The menu is extensive and offers plenty of choices. I have a wonderful omelet and a... More
