We serve only fresh, American Family Farm sourced ingredients in our great signature dishes like Chicken Pot Pie, Butcher's Cut meats, Chicken N' Waffles, big green salads, rustic farm sandwiches and soups, tall, delectable pies and desserts, in an atmosphere that's comfortable and welcoming like a farmhouse. Founding Farmers is a Certified Green Restaurant, operates Carbon Neutral with offset credits via CarbonFund, and has been designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification criteria. Founding Farmers was the first LEED Gold restaurant in DC, and was the first full service, upscale LEED Gold restaurant in the U.S. We are proud of our partnership with George Washington University and have established an annual $5,000 scholarship for a student studying sustainability, and have recently enhanced our partnership with an apiary (beehive) on Lisner Hall.

OMG!! Fabulous food! It tastes right off the farm and so fresh. Great service but please make reservations. We had reservations and we were seated in less than five minutes. However, people around us with no reservations were waiting an hour and half!!

This place took our reservation at the last minute, and while crowded, we were taken within 10 minutes of our reserved time. It gave us time to check out the dishes as they passed. Our dishes were awesome! Party of 4 and we shared everything! Will make it a regular stop in future visits.

Reservations are a must unless you want to wait an hour plus. The food was delicious and hot and the menu was quite varied. The 'stew' I got was more a chicken broth with vegetables but the other stews were heartier. The three hot dogs were actually three types of meat like pastrami in mini rolls. Chicken and waffles were... More

Highly recommend! Come hungry. We shared the veggie egg scramble. Our neighbors ordered the stuffed French toast. Yummy!

Food was very good, I had a Pork stew dish similar to Posole. Food quality was very good and good selection but not overly massive which is good, with a few unusual items. Went there with my wife and daughter, good location. Modernish decor, young crowd, nice bar, full windows around 2 sides of the restaurant, we sat in a... More

Just amazing for vegetarians or anyone. Very large menu serving fresh mostly locally grown vegetables and produce. In my thoughts... Very Southern recipes in DC. I wish I could have stayed in DC longer to dine a few more times. Best vegetarian loaf with whipped potatoes and broccoli!

This place is great. So great, in fact, that it is frequented by tourists and locals alike. The menu is creative, the service friendly, and the food delicious. You don't need to book a table very far out, but if you're staying in the area and think you'll try it for breakfast on a weekend, do yourself a favor and... More

Founding Farmers is a MUST if you are living or visiting D.C. Try the dips - the pimento cheese is amazing. Also, if you like fish, the plank salmon there is amazing. My sister is vegan and their vegan menu is probably one of the best in town, with menu items ranging from cauliflower "steak" to mushroom "scallops". They pour... More
