We serve only fresh, American Family Farm sourced ingredients in our great signature dishes like Chicken Pot Pie, Butcher's Cut meats, Chicken N' Waffles, big green salads, rustic farm sandwiches and soups, tall, delectable pies and desserts, in an atmosphere that's comfortable and welcoming like a farmhouse. Founding Farmers is a Certified Green Restaurant, operates Carbon Neutral with offset credits via CarbonFund, and has been designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification criteria. Founding Farmers was the first LEED Gold restaurant in DC, and was the first full service, upscale LEED Gold restaurant in the U.S. We are proud of our partnership with George Washington University and have established an annual $5,000 scholarship for a student studying sustainability, and have recently enhanced our partnership with an apiary (beehive) on Lisner Hall.

Not impressed but concept good for major city

This place is BUSY. make reservation week ahead or more. It has an industrial vibe in the decor however the wait staff is dressed in plaid farmers shirts and jeans. My wife and I and a friend enjoyed a nice dinner at this spot last Sunday. I had salmon with some nice sides. We enjoyed the skillet cornbread and would recommend this. The sound level was extremely loud almost to the point of discomfort which made conversation with our friend difficult. However, this is a "happening" place

This was our first meal in DC and I could not have been more impressed with how incredibly friendly the bartenders were and how amazing the food was. The place is ALWAYS packed, and I do mean ALWAYS, so we sat at the bar BOTH times we went, in the 2 days we were in DC. Food was awesome, drinks... More

My husband and I made no reservation after a long walk around DC, they sat us and handed us menus,All staff was very friendly. Food came out quickly then. I had the waiter help me pick out a cocktail which was delayed a good 10mins(that's why four stars). Over all some of the best food in DC.

My husband and I had a fabulous dinner at Founding Farmers! We both agree it was our favorite meal on our vacation. We enjoyed our cocktails, meals, the service, atmosphere, everything! We are from Texas and eat a lot of "home cookin" type meals, so I wasn't expecting Founding Farmers to impress me much. I was wrong! We started with... More

The food was great. Nothing extraordinary except for the quality. Burgers came out cooked perfectly. Appetizers were delicious. This was not a fancy meal, but it was a great meal and reasonably priced for Washington, DC.

I was suspicious of a restaurant with this name in DC, but from the size of the crowd, its quality is no secret. I strongly recommend a reservation, even for breakfast, especially on weekends. Menu items are varied and range from typical breakfast fare to very tasty specialty items. My wife loved the stuffed French toast and the various hash... More

Great food. Attentive server. We made same day reservations through open table. Definitely was a time saver. People were quoted a 1 hour wait at the door. The skillet cornbread melts in your mouth. Everything is fresh, especially the salads. We liked it so much, we ate there twice on a week's trip. My favorites were the steak and the... More

The corn bread skillet and red velvet cake are awesome. Do not order the mac n cheese or lobster mac n cheese. YUCK! watery runny cheese sauce, wrong pasta choice and lackluster flavor. You will be very disappointed shelling out $30 for their lobster mac. Mashed Potatoes are good. I only came for the crab cakes and they ran out... More
