We serve only fresh, American Family Farm sourced ingredients in our great signature dishes like Chicken Pot Pie, Butcher's Cut meats, Chicken N' Waffles, big green salads, rustic farm sandwiches and soups, tall, delectable pies and desserts, in an atmosphere that's comfortable and welcoming like a farmhouse. Founding Farmers is a Certified Green Restaurant, operates Carbon Neutral with offset credits via CarbonFund, and has been designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification criteria. Founding Farmers was the first LEED Gold restaurant in DC, and was the first full service, upscale LEED Gold restaurant in the U.S. We are proud of our partnership with George Washington University and have established an annual $5,000 scholarship for a student studying sustainability, and have recently enhanced our partnership with an apiary (beehive) on Lisner Hall.

Amazing Food!

We had to make a reservation and We had to wait a couple minutes to be seated down. We were greeted by our friendly waiter. He was very nice and informative. Great, quick service. The food is beyond delicious.

Arrived 5 minutes before our reservation to an overly packed waiting area--had to wait until 11 minutes after our reservation to be seated. Restaurant is as cold as a refrigerator and noisy as a bus station at rush hour. Food is good and service decent. I had shrimp and tomatoes bucatini and it was very good. The desert servings are... My boyfriend and I were visiting DC for a few days and were recommended this place to eat. This place is big on the ingredients going straight from the farm to their tables, they make pretty much everything in house and you can tell in the quality. It's located in foggy bottom a few minutes walk from the metro station.... More

Founding Farmers is a staggeringly mediocre experience. I can understand how this restaurant makes its living though: fill the building with sucker tourists who listen to other tourists who post inflated reviews because they are from Iowa (no offense, Iowa), and their best restaurant experience is a Red Lobster. Please, for the love of good food everywhere, do not make... More

This is a very popular restaurant and might have great food, but we wouldn't know. There was a very uncomfortable wait upfront before we were sat in the middle of a communal table. It was so loud we couldn't hear the waiter. We had to leave. Too bad.

Was staying in Georgetown so a 10 minute walk away. Walked past here at 6:30 and was rammed with loads of people waiting inside and out so decided to go early one Friday for dinner. Arrived at 5 and no wait as long as we were out by 6.15. Had a table back of bar. Server was ok we ordered... More

Read about this place and had to go. An hour and 40 minute wait on a Saturday night was worth it. If your lucky try and grab a seat at the bar. Best shrimp and grits and yankee pot roast. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Check out the bartenders- they are true professionals. Loved the atmosphere and can't... More

I had a really lovely meal here. I recommend the Yankee pot roast with a side of Dijon mustard. Everything was really good. However, please be warned that this place draws huge crowds and, subsequently, there can be long waits. I suggest booking a reservation on line--I believe doing so saved me at least thirty minutes of waiting. The service... More

My husband came upon this restaurant while searching tripadvisor, so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed with our food, but apparently it is a very popular restaurant in DC so we waited almost an hour to be seated. But the food made up for it, we both had the chicken and waffles, with macaroni and... More

So close to 5 stars. The menu is very creative and appeals to any taste. It's a farm-to-table themed restaurant with mostly comfort food. The atmosphere is very lively, as this place is almost always packed to capacity. Coming across a reservation during peak dinner hours is a feat in itself. The food was great. The drinks were tasty but... More
