We serve only fresh, American Family Farm sourced ingredients in our great signature dishes like Chicken Pot Pie, Butcher's Cut meats, Chicken N' Waffles, big green salads, rustic farm sandwiches and soups, tall, delectable pies and desserts, in an atmosphere that's comfortable and welcoming like a farmhouse. Founding Farmers is a Certified Green Restaurant, operates Carbon Neutral with offset credits via CarbonFund, and has been designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification criteria. Founding Farmers was the first LEED Gold restaurant in DC, and was the first full service, upscale LEED Gold restaurant in the U.S. We are proud of our partnership with George Washington University and have established an annual $5,000 scholarship for a student studying sustainability, and have recently enhanced our partnership with an apiary (beehive) on Lisner Hall.

The food was amazing! Parking can be troublesome, and definitely make a reservation, but go and enjoy the homemade sodas.

We visited after reserving a morning slot on opentable. Ordered chicken and waffles and stuffed French toast with strawberries and cream. The chicken wasn't very fried compared to the stalwart southern institutions. Also the pieces were very variable from one plate to another. Each plate gets three pieces. My neighbor received pieces twice my size. Waffle was good but compared... More

No food at founding farmers was awesome. The food was very fresh and came out very quickly. The waiter that served us made the meal very memorable

Great food. Great atmosphere. Service is friendly. Always packed and there is a short way even if you have reservations.

I don't see why this place gets the reviews it does. It's really nothing special at all. We were here on 5/24/2015. Waited half hour to get in for breakfast, and we were told we had to vacate the table within 60 minutes, even though other tables remained empty. They had no decaf coffee and had to "create" something using... More

Founding Farmers has been around several years, but we just around to trying it. Our loss for sure - this place is fantastic! FF doesn't try to be cute or trendy - it just focuses on turning out really good family-fare food - better than you can at home. The ingredients are great to start with, and the results are... More

Being from the South, we were curious to try things out. The reviews were promising and we were not let down! We tried the corn bread, eggs, pot roast, chicken and waffles, steak, and shrimp and grits. Everything was mouth watering good! I fact, I was so full halfway into my meal, but it was too good to stop eating!... More

Not an exaggeration, because I'll think twice before ordering ravioli somewhere else in the future! It just won't live up to Founding Farmers butternut squash marscapone ravioli. Founding Farmers is located in a busy downtown neighbourhood with lots of businesses nearby, so I expect it is busy all the time! We arrived at 11:40am and it was a 45 minute... More

My fiance and I visited DC back in November 2015 (I'm a little slow on reviews sometimes). But this review should stick out in your mind even more because of how much the food still lingers in mine! :) We were out with some old and new friends, local to DC, and they invited us to dinner here. I had... More
