Cold beer and wharf views

We stopped by Le Cafe, drawn to the outdoor seating offering views of the Picton wharf and Queen Charlotte Sound. We just had a couple of draft beers, did not order food. Very enjoyable hour or so spent sipping our beer, people watching, and enjoying the late summer sun.

Everything about dinner in this restaurant was decidedly average. The slightly chaotic service just about avoided being shambolic. The menu was quite an ambitious one. I had snapper in beurre blanc with bulgar wheat. My wife had wild hare in chocolate sauce. In both cases, the cooking fell short of what was required, and the result was food that was... More

We were highly recommended to eat here but the live entertainment put us off. After being out on the QCT, we needed something a little more gentle on the ears. Opted for a cold drink and some bar food and moved on elsewhere for dinner.

Went here on the recommendation of our host at a local B&B - we weren't disappointed. No problem getting a table and delivery of menus was prompt. Some slight confusion with our order was quickly and more than adequately rectified. Food was fantastic - we had the local green lipped mussels and kingfish. Would definitely recommend to seafood lovers, and... More

So, we were looking for fresh seafood and the locals told us to check this place out. By far, this was the most delicious and inspired meal we had while in Picton. The service was great and the flavors, combined with the scenery was just spectacular. Please, if coming off the ship, You Gotta Eat Here.

We had lunch here on a Saturday. The place was hopping busy, but we were able to get an outdoor table with a wonderful view. The girl told us when we placed our order that it would be 45 minute wait for food. So we were warned up front. We saw other people who left because of the wait (for... More

When sitting out on the wide pavement you have a nice view of the water and the marina. The food was really nice and I particularly enjoyed the Clams in a lovely garlicky cream sauce served with crusty bread. Service was smooth and easy going. And a nice place to do a bit of people watching.

....And the food is really good too. Try to get an outside table, but wear long pants and socks so the mosquitos don't get you.

The hardest decision was what to choose from many mouth-watering specials! Settled on the steamed clams with jasmine rice washed down with (for once by NZ standards) some reasonably priced local Sauvignon Blanc. Plus a view to die for!

Incredible views, excellent service and oh yea - the food was EXCELLENT and a GREAT value. Seafood chowder for lunch, fish of the day for dinner. One cannot beat the value!
