Taste like home made - wow it IS home made

The pies and various snacks on offer here all appear to be home made and home produced on the day. They certainly taste like it. We are spending a week in Picton and this has become a regular place to get a pie for lunch (an amazing selection) or a savoury snack to take on a picnic. Friendly and... read more

Visited here late one afternoon, purchased a croisant with ham, cheese and salad and a pie. The croisant was fresh, tasty and the portion was big. The pie was very good, like pies used to taste like, lots of meat and delicious pastry. The sandwich and pie menu was extensive and the staff will prepare sandwiches to order. There is... More

Must visit, must sample from stunning array of quality continental-inspired food -- so fresh, and an exceptionally wide selection. It includes NZ traditions like Afghan biscuits (try the mini-version) and cheese scones (buttered on request). Easy walk from the main street, if you don't have a car, but remember bakery hours (about 6am-4pm).

The menu includes few things that are Dutch (I was hoping it would have more since I am half Dutch and love Dutch baked goods), but what we did order was excellent. Well worth a stop for something to take on a picnic or eat on the go.

Coming from Holland, I know how the real dutch stuff should taste and something is not quite rigth. Too much lemon is used in most of the bakery goods. But if you dont know how the real stuff taste than you can give it a try.

I came to look for these places in each town where i stayed, and was rarely disappointed. Why eat hotel continental breakfast when fresh pastries or pies and coffee at the bakery is cheaper, tastier and less like staying home breakfast.

we popped in here on the way back to our hotel - we decided we wanted a cake to follow our fish and chips we had just bought. We where spoilt for choice. In the end we picked up 1 cinnammon swirl and a biscuit based cake - not sure what it was called but it was scrumptious. Well done... More
