This is a small Cafe on the front of Akaroa. We popped in for a coffee. There food looked lovely and the service was very friendly. The coffee was amazing.

My wife and I and and our daughter went to the Escargot Rouge for breakfast on Sunday January 18 2015. I had a half strength long black and my wife has the Parisien breakfast. I thought my coffee was good. My wife liked her Parisien breakfast which was essentially a Croque Monsieur and a bowl of cafe au lait, with... More

Believe it or not but that is the English translation for L'Escargot Rouge! It is certainly an interesting shop and worth a visit.

We stumbled on this cafe while out walking. Followed someone who looked local and walked in. Immediate warm friendly atmosphere and great looking cabinet food. Great coffee! Soy latte and kids hot chocolate. Lovely muesli slice. Will go every day during our stay.

Been here several times. Great food and drinks. The cabinet always looks impressive. Trying to decide what to have is the hardest decision. Staff can be hit and miss here - sometimes friendly othertimes not. This is a regular spot for me though - so it can't be bad.

the food was very average and the service was only good if you were a local and the people behind the counter knew you.

No tables outside and inside was a sauna - yet we still got charged a takeaway fee for our coffees!! Poor service and the coffee wasn't amazing for the price. Other options available for coffees along the waterfront!

We arrived rather early in Akaroa. The only place open that we could find was L'Escargot Rouge. This is a quaint shop, but I couldn't handle the strong coffee they offered. Taking up table space without buying something isn't cool either, so I ordered a cup. We enjoyed our time there. I did notice that things were a bit pricey,... More

We went here in the morning for breakfast and we spent 35 Nzd for 2 Cappuccino, two glasses of cold milk and four croissants. Really too much. Anywhere in the world that would have been no more than 20 !!!

Excellent service and delicious coffee. We stopped here three times to have a coffee. They say that they open at 8am, but on our morning walks we found they were open at 7am and serving coffees (with a smile and a cookie!). Very nice sitting outside on the pavement watching the world go by. Hint. the sparrows are rather tame... More
