Excellent food and music

The location of this place in a small modern brick courtyard of shops just out of the town centre didn't fill me with confidence. But I read lots of good reviews and when the band struck up their blues music we knew we had made the right choice. The food isn't true Spanish tapas but there was a... read more

The menu has a wide variety of dishes that will please most palates. More modern Australian fusion style than strictly Spanish tapas dishes. I guess that is why it is called 'Gypsy'. Flavours of the world cleverly blended. The wines and beers are mainly Western Australian and well priced considering their excellent quality. If you are in the Perth/Fremantle area... More

Following the good reviews and with the greatest remembrance of Spanish tapas, we visited Gipsy's with anticipation. What a disappointment! First of all, the staff is very cold, let us wait to be seated, never offered a smile and, when prompted about dishes, had absolutely no insight to offer. They looked depressed! Although the outside seating looked nicer, we were... More

First time we have been back with the new owners, if anything it is improved whilst still retaining its originality; they are doing a GREAT job! It now has a little more class, the rough backpacker waitstaff have gone, the eclectic crockery is less chipped, the seats more comfortable, the staff more attentive. The new owners have kept up the... More

We had a great meal last night here. Shared 8 tapas, jug of Sangria, 2 cakes, 2 coffees, a beer and a sambucca for less than $150. Getting a dip dish is recommended as you get a huge portion of turkish bread to soak up the sauces on your plates. Live music playing outside added to the great atmosphere. Will... More

This restaurant has new owners, and this was our first visit with them. The service was quick, the food came out almost too quickly and we ordered too much! The wine we had came from their own vineyard - all the ones on the list were organic, and reasonably priced which is just as well because they don't allow BYO.

I found the service to be excellent, the food was very tasty and the selection quite varied. I liked the courtyard type setting and enjoyed the atmosphere.

The tapas selection was a little puzzling, as most of it you wouldn't find in any restaurant in Spain. The service was dismal (waited five minutes for some one -ANYONE-to offer us a table, then waited a further ten minutes before someone acknowledge our presence and asked if we wanted drinks), the food ludicrously overpriced and almost laughably not tapas.... A friend introduced me to this courtyard taverna last night after we'd been to an art exhibition at Nyisztor Studio. Great ambience with delightful 3 or 4 piece band (double bass, flute, guitar and keyboard, I think). Service was good, food good and wine tasty. All around about was quiet in the streets but this hidden corner was humming. Two... More
